Lunedì, 7 agosto: si riprendono i lavori. P. Mario Mula introduce la sessione con la preghiera del Capitolo, mentre il segretario, p. Antonio Flores, dà alcune indicazioni circa il metodo di lettura della relazione della DG, la discussione in gruppi e la composizione delle commissioni. Iniziamo quindi con la presentazione della relazione della Regione del Regno Unito presentata dai pp. Jim Clarke e Tom Welsh. Moderatore della giornata è p. Eduardo García.
Regno Unito
La Regione ha attualmente 11 confratelli in 4 case (Londra, Preston, Glasgow, Coatbridge) e un confratello nell’arcidiocesi di Edimburgo: “una squadra di calcio senza riserve!”. Le attività includono impegno in gruppi di giustizia e pace, migranti, carcerati, dialogo interreligioso e interculturale, ecumenismo, animazione missionaria, attività educativa nelle scuole, pastorale, formazione dei laici. Il numero ridotto dei confratelli ci sfida sempre con la difficoltà di fare tante attività. La regione ha bisogno di una rotazione maggiore di confratelli preparati, e non “factotum”.
La novità della Regione è stata la realizzazione dell’Istituto Conforti: ne abbiamo visto l’impatto positivo anche perché siamo stati gli unici che hanno creato questo tipo di iniziativa. D’altra parte si sente la necessità di fare di più per lavorare insieme ed evitare progetti personali, rispettare le decisioni prese insieme e portarle avanti nel migliore dei modi. Ma più di tutto si sente il bisogno di ripensare e qualificare la presenza saveriana anche come sequela missionaria tra i battezzati.
Nella discussione risalta la tensione tra la missione ad intra e la missione ad extra, la relazione con gli Stati Uniti, la possibilità di diventare delegazione, l’articolazione del Centro di Coatbridge in favore della formazione permanente in tutte le regioni in Europa.
Direzione Generale
Ogni delegato riceve una cartella di 40 pagine. Si inizia ricordando con commozione la morte inaspettata del p. Luigi Menegazzo, rendendo omaggio con gratitudine alla sua persona e alla sua figura, la cui scomparsa ha dato inizio al periodo di transizione.
“Ripartire dal primo annuncio” era la proposta del XVI Capitolo Generale. Nella lettera della DG dell’ottobre 2013, dove erano contenuti i punti programmatici del sessennio, si diceva: “ripartire significa creatività coraggiosa, apertura lungimirante, discernimento costruttivo verso una missione più autentica ed efficace per il primo annuncio”.
La DG ha cercato di far suo il mandato del capitolo con la lettera del marzo 2014 che ha per titolo: “Coinvolti nel sogno del Conforti, il primo annuncio ci riposiziona tutti!” (XVI CG 57). Il “riposizionamento” è divenuto così il leitmotiv del mandato, affinché fosse percepito e accettato proprio come atto di fede nel futuro e nella novità del Vangelo.
La relazione poi è proseguita con il secondo punto, “Animazione della congregazione”, in cui sono stati ripresi i contenuti delle lettere a tutti i confratelli e le visite alle circoscrizioni: Bangladesh, Brasile Nord, Brasile Sud, Burundi, Cina, Colombia, Camerun-Ciad, Delegazione Centrale, Spagna e Indonesia.
Dopo una prima carrellata di sintesi di queste visite, si apre uno spazio per la discussione. I capitolari entrano in merito alle questioni sollevate con domande, chiarificazioni, osservazioni e riflessioni.
Nel pomeriggio, si riprende con la relazione della Direzione Generale con p. Fabien Kalehezo T’chiribuka come moderatore. È la volta delle visite a Italia, Giappone, Mozambico, Messico, Filippine, RD Congo, Sierra Leone, Thailandia, Regno Unito e Stati Uniti.
Anche qui si è aperto uno spazio per il dibattito con reazioni e commenti alle diverse tematiche che sono state sollevate.
Si è continuato, quindi, con le proposte di nuove aperture presentate alla DG in questi anni, che dovranno essere prese in considerazione dal Capitolo Generale (Sud Sudan, Mongo in Ciad, Alto Solimões in Brasile), l’archivio generale e la pagina web.
Finalmente, la terza parte della relazione analizza la situazione delle persone e delle comunità; la quarta, l’animazione missionaria e vocazionale; la quinta, la formazione di base e la formazione permanente; la sesta, cultura e missione, con la realizzazione dei Centri di Studio continentali.
Prima di continuare la lettura della relazione della DG, ci si ferma alle 18:00 per un ultimo dibattito sulle tematiche trattate. La sessione termina alle 18:30.

Monday, August 7: Work is resumed. Fr. Mario Mula introduces the session with the prayer of the Chapter, while the secretary, Fr. Antonio Flores, gives some information about the method of reading the DG's report, the discussion in the groups and the composition of the committees. We begin with the presentation of the report of the UK Region presented by Frs. Jim Clarke and Tom Welsh. Moderator of the day is Fr. Eduardo García.
UK
The Region currently has 11 confreres in 4 houses (London, Preston, Glasgow, Coatbridge) and a confrere in the Archdiocese of Edinburgh: "a free soccer team!" Activities include engagement in groups of justice and peace, migrants, prison service, interreligious and intercultural dialogue, ecumenism, missionary animation, school education, pastoral work, and training of the Laity. The small number of confreres always resists many of these activities, becoming a challenge. The region needs a better and wider rotation of prepared confreres, and not replacing one for another.
The Region's innovative move was the creation of the Conforti Institute: we saw the positive impact also because we were the only missionary community to have this kind of initiative. On the other hand, we feel the need to do more to work together and to avoid personal projects, to respect the decisions taken together, and to carry them forward in the best way. But more than anything, one feels the need to rethink and qualify our Xaverian presence as a missionary among the baptized.
The discussion highlighted a number of things: the tension between the intra-mission and the extra mission, the relationship and collaboration with the United States, the possibility of becoming a delegation, the articulation of the Coatbridge Center as a center for on-going formation for all regions in Europe.
General direction
Each delegate receives a report of 40 pages. It begins by commemorating the unexpected death of Fr. Luigi Menegazzo, paying tribute to her person and figure, whose passing began the transition period.
"Starting from the first announcement" was the proposal of the XVI General Chapter. In the DG's letter of October 2013, where the six-year programming points were contained, it was said, “courageous creativity, farsighted openness, constructive discernment towards a more authentic and effective mission for the first announcement is what we share."
The DG has fleshed out its mandate with the letter of March 2014 titled "Caught up in the dream of the Conforti, the first announcement repositions us once more!" (XVI CG 57). "Reposition" has thus become the leitmotif of the mandate so that it is perceived and accepted as an act of faith in the future and in the novelty of the Gospel.
The report then went on with the second item, "Animation of the Congregation", where the contents of the letters were summarized for all brothers and visits to the districts: Bangladesh, North Brazil, South Brazil, Burundi, China, Colombia, Cameroon -Chad, Central Delegation, Spain and Indonesia.
After a brief summary of these visits, a space for discussion was made. Chapter Delagates offered questions, clarifications, remarks and reflections.
In the afternoon, the report of the General Direction was take up once more with Fr. Fabien Kalehezo T'chiribuka as moderator. Summaries of Italy, Japan, Mozambique, Mexico, Philippines, RD Congo, Sierra Leone, Thailand, United Kingdom and United States were shared.
Again there were reactions and comments on the various issues that were raised.
Proposals for new openings submitted to DG have continued in these years, which will have to be taken into account by the General Chapter (South Sudan, Mongo in Chad, Alto Solimões in Brazil), the general archive and the web page.
Finally, the third part of the report analyzed the situation of confreres and communities; The fourth part, missionary and vocational animation; The fifth part, basic formation and permanent formation; The sixth part, culture and mission, with the foundation of the Continental Study Centers.
It was proposed to read the DG's report until 6:00pm, leaving the final 30 minutes for clarifications, questions, etc., on the issues being dealt with. The session ends at 18:30.
