A Kinshasa st Bernard stiamo terminando una settimana triste per iniziarne una dal futuro incerto. Lunedì notte ci hanno rubato la statua della vergine Maria alla grotta. Ieri (sabato 05 aprile 2025, nrd) improvvisamente il fiume Ndjili che fa da confine alla parrocchia ha rotto gli argini. Attualmente abbiamo in casa e in chiesa oltre 150 cm di acqua. Per antiche esperienze, abbiamo cercato di sollevare il più cose possibili, ma questa volta non è bastato e un mucchio di cose sono finite in acqua. I danni sono ingenti.

Ci siamo rifugiati al piano superiore con alcuni cristiani. La gente che non è potuta fuggire ha trascorso la notte sui tetti di lamiera. Finora da parte delle autorità nessun segnale di soccorso. In St Bernard, Kinshasa, we are ending a sad week and beginning an uncertain future. On Monday night, our statue of the Virgin Mary at the grotto was stolen. Yesterday (Saturday, April 5^th, 2025 – ed.) the Ndjili River, which is at the border of our parish, suddenly broke its banks. We currently have over 150-cm-high water in the house and the church. Based on previous experiences, we had tried to lift as much stuff as possible to a higher place, but it was to no avail and many things ended up underwater. Damage is extensive.

We took refuge upstairs with some parishioners. People who could not escape spent the night on tin roofs. So far we did not see any sign that authorities are taking action.
