Giovedì 20 agosto 2026, abbiamo ricordato l’anniversario di morte della nostra carissima Madre Celestina Bottego, venerabile. Nel suo vivere nutrito dalla fede e nella disponibilità all’azione dello Spirito Santo, Madre Celestina cercava sempre di essere in sintonia con il progetto di Dio. Anche nell’ora della morte ella andò all’incontro, pronunciando per tre volte il suo “Amen”.
Madre Celestina aveva a cuore una speranza viva che si poteva sentire nella sua comunicazione più ordinaria e nei suoi scritti. In una lettera del 1° Maggio 1968 (San Lazzaro) indirizzata a tutte le sorelle scrive così “o se potessimo anche noi, mie carissime, sentire alla fine della vita, come la madonna: “Beata te perché hai creduto!”. La fede è virtù ma è soprattutto dono che Dio ha serbato non per i grandi, ma per i piccoli. Chiediamo insistentemente le une per le altre questo dono, per l’intercessione della Madonna.” (LM 35). Ecco per noi Missionarie di Maria, il testamento spirituale che la nostra venerabile Madre ci ha lasciato e che desideriamo accogliere, portare avanti e trasmettere negli incontri semplici del quotidiano, nell’apostolato e anche nelle nostre comunità, nella convinzione che tutti abbiamo bisogno di questi doni che Dio elargisce a quanti in Lui confidano. On Thursday, August 20th, 2026, we commemorated the anniversary of the death of our beloved Mother, the Venerable Celestina Bottego. She spent a life nourished by faith and constantly open to the action of the Holy Spirit. Mother Celestina was always striving to be in tune with God’s plan. Even at the hour of her death, she went to meet Him, uttering her “Amen” three times. Mother Celestina nurtured a vibrant hope that shone through in her daily interactions and her writings. In a letter dated May 1st, 1968 (from San Lazzaro) and addressed to all the sisters, she wrote as follows:
“Oh, if at the end of our lives, like the Virgin May, we too, my dearest ones, could hear addressed to us the words: ‘Blessed are you who have believed!’
Faith is a virtue, but above all it is a gift that God has reserved, not for the great, but for the little ones. Let us earnestly ask for this gift for one another, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary” (LM 35). Here is the spiritual legacy that our Venerable Mother has left us, which we wish to embrace, carry forward, and pass on in our simple daily encounters, in our apostolate, and also within our communities.
