La Pasqua di p. Savio Corinaldesi, la Pasqua di p. Renato Trevisan e il Messaggio di Papa Francesco per la 61ª Giornata Mondiale di Preghiera per le Vocazioni continuano a dirmi di sognare come sogna il Signore, come sogna il nostro Santo Fondatore, come sogna San Francesco Saverio...

Prima di lasciarmi ricascare nel “si è sempre fatto così”, voglio sognare ancora e condividere ancora. Poi non è vero che si è sempre fatto così: Renato (non solo lui) si è dato anima e corpo ai Popoli Indigeni. Savio (non solo lui), mai s’è rassegnato davanti al 70% dell’umanità che non sa dell’Amore di Dio Padre, Figlio e Spirito Santo. Papa Francesco poi è sempre nuovo, facendo e parlando.

Abbiamo celebrato i 70 anni di presenza Saveriana in Brasile. Qui, come in Africa e in Asia, ci si arrivò, dopo l’espulsione dalla Cina, inviati dall’allora Propaganda Fide. Grazie a questa ‘diaspora’, la fisionomia Saveriana si è  arricchita dei volti dei popoli che ci hanno accolto e che le chiese locali ci hanno donato.  Così anche noi, emigrati e immigrati, stiamo offrendo un piccolo contributo alla Chiesa che non può non essere missionaria.  Adesso, però, tornando ai 70 anni di presenza-supplenza in Brasile e avendo fatto la nostra parte, dovremmo sentire il dovere di specificare e attualizzare la nostra identità di “missionari del primo annuncio, ad extra e ad vitam”.

E andare dove c’è più abbandono. Al riguardo sono puntuali le scelte di p. Renato, di p. Savio e gli appelli di Papa Francesco. E, certamente, di tanti altri.

Quindi: la nostra famiglia che si ama e che ama la sua vocazione riscopre se stessa, oggi, nel carisma del suo Santo Fondatore che vuole annunciare la buona novella del Regno di Dio ai non cristiani. Allora, ritornando al sogno, dico alla mia Famiglia Saveriana: andiamo nel mondo a vivere coi Popoli Indigeni, andiamo nel mondo a vivere in mezzo a quel 70% di umanità... privilegiando la Cina.

Ma dobbiamo andarci fin da prima di andarci: stimolati da chi già c’è andato. E poi studiando la missione, le culture, la base delle lingue, l’antropologia religiosa, sociale e politica... Cioè, fin dagli studi intravvedere l’orizzonte della missione e desiderarla. Intanto noi, che per l’età e per le circostanze stiamo in Brasile (e nelle Americhe) non possiamo... che sognare. E sempre pregare per tutti e incoraggiare tutti, chiamati a seminare la speranza e a costruire la pace. E partire… (Giuseppe Leoni sx, alias Zezinho)

Fr. Savio Corinaldesi’s Easter, Fr. Renato Trevisan’s Easter, and Pope Francis’ message for the 61^st World Day of Prayer for Vocations continue telling me to dream like the Lord dreams, like our holy Founder dreams, like St Francis Xavier dreams.

Before allowing myself to be trapped into the logic of “it has always been done this way,” I want to keep dreaming and sharing. Actually, it is not true that it has always been done this way. Renato (but not only him) has given his body and soul for the Indigenous Peoples. Savio (but not only him) has never got used to the fact that 70% of humanity does not know the Love of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And Pope Francis is always new in his actions and speeches.

We have celebrated 70 years of Xaverian presence in Brazil. As in Africa and Asia, here too we arrived on assignment for Propaganda Fide after we had been expelled from China. Thanks also to this diaspora, the Xaverian physiognomy was enriched by the faces of the peoples that welcomed us and that local churches gave us. This is how we, migrants and immigrants, are offering a small contribution to the Church – a Church that cannot but be Missionary. However, getting back to the 70 years of presence-temporary pastoral service (supplenza) in Brazil and after we played our part, now we should feel the duty to specify and actualize our identity as “missionaries of first proclamation, ad extra and ad vitam.”

And we should go where nobody wants to go. In this respect, the choices made by Fr. Renato and Fr. Savio, as well as Pope Francis’ appeals, are fitting. Certainly, like the choices made by many others.

Therefore, if our family loves herself and her vocation, she must rediscover herself, today, in the charism of her Holy Founder who wants to proclaim the good news of God’s Reign to the non-Christians. Thus, going back to the dream, I want to tell my Xaverian Family: let us go to the world to live with the Indigenous Peoples, let us go to the world to live among that 70% of humanity, and as a preference in China.

But we must go there before actually reaching those destinations: inspired by those who have already been there. Then by studying the mission, the cultures, the foundations of languages, the religious, social and political anthropology, etc. That is to say, from the time of formation one should catch a glimpse of the mission and look at its horizon. As for us, who remain in Brazil (and in the Americas) because of our age and past circumstances, all we can do is… dream. And keep praying for all and encourage all, for we are called to sow seeds of hope and build peace. And leave… (Giuseppe Leoni s.x., aka Zezinho)
