Il prossimo 17 marzo 2026 ricorre il 30° anniversario di beatificazione di San Guido Maria Conforti, arcivescovo, vescovo di Parma (1865 – 1931). Sono quindi 30 anni che è stata confezionata l’urna in plexiglas, disposta dentro il sarcofago situato nell’abside della Chiesa della Casa Madre, eretta da Mons. Cesare Bonicelli come “Santuario di San G.M. Conforti” il 31 ottobre 1997.

I pellegrini che si recano a pregare nel Santuario vedono nell’urna la statua in vetroresina e gesso di Conforti contenente, all’interno, le sacre spoglie del Santo.

Dopo 30 anni, la Postulazione, assieme alla Direzione generale e al Vescovo di Parma, hanno chiesto al Dicastero delle Cause dei Santi di approfittare di questa commemorazione per poter effettuare una pulizia nel sarcofago e nell’urna, sostituire i paramenti scoloriti, ed effettuare un ordinario lavoro di manutenzione.

Per questo, una delegazione della diocesi di Parma e un gruppo di Saveriani si sono riuniti in preghiera, attorno all’urna sabato 21 febbraio 2026. Dopo aver estratto l’urna, si sono recati in processione alla Sala rossa (antico studio del Santo Fondatore quando si recava nel suo Istituto): in questo luogo sono stati cambiati i paramenti liturgici e venerate le sacre reliquie chiuse dal sigillo di ceralacca della Curia di Parma e della Postulazione e dal timbro dell’Azienda USL della Regione Emilia-Romagna. Sostituito il cuscino, sono stati riinseriti l’anello episcopale e la croce pettorale già presenti nell’urna e che furono offerti il 13 dicembre 1964 da mons. Carlo Maggiolini con una dedica alquanto profetica: “Offro croce e anello per il Beato Conforti”. Al momento della donazione, infatti, Mons. Conforti era ancora Servo di Dio. Ma già in vita, molti si avvicinavano a Conforti come ad un Santo.

Si è rinnovata anche la tappezzeria interna del sarcofago che contiene l’urna nel Santuario San Guido Maria Conforti. La carta era un damascato roseo ormai scolorito. Leonardo Carusillo, del Centro Parati di Parma ha procurato la carta da parati (damasco reale) e l’ha applicata all’interno del sarcofago. Una passamaneria dorata offerta da Claudio Folli, titolare del negozio di articoli religiosi FAPS, è stata incollata nei bordi interni superiori.

Al termine dei lavori, l’urna è stata riposta nel sarcofago durante un momento di preghiera e di venerazione diretto dal vescovo Natale Paganelli, Superiore Regionale dell’Italia, accompagnato da confratelli e fedeli presenti. Il vescovo Natale ha ringraziato don Francesco Ponci, don Paolo Salvadori, don Giovanni Coruzzi, le suore Ancelle dell’Immacolata e p. Denis Iurigh per aver realizzato questo bel progetto devozionale.

Con le parole del Salmo 26 desideriamo cantare insieme: “Signore, amo la casa dove dimori e il luogo dove abita la tua gloria” (Sal 26,8). (Faustino Turco sx)

March 17^th, 2026, marks the 30^th anniversary of the beatification of St Guido Maria Conforti, Archbishop, Bishop of Parma (1865-1931). Thirty years have passed since a plexiglass urn was created and placed inside his sarcophagus in the apse of the Mother House Church, which, on October 31^st, 1997, Msgr. Cesare Bonicelli erected as the ‘St. G.M. Conforti Shrine.’

The pilgrims who come to pray at the Shrine can see in the urn the fibreglass-and-plaster statue of Conforti that contains the Saint’s sacred remains. The Postulation, along with the General Direction and the Bishop of Parma, have asked the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints permission to take advantage of this 30^th anniversary in order to clean the sarcophagus and urn, replace discoloured vestments, and carry out routine maintenance work. For this reason, on Saturday, February 21^st, 2026, a delegation from the Diocese of Parma and a group of Xaverians gathered in prayer around the urn. After removing the urn, they took it in procession to the Sala Rossa (Red Room, the ancient study of the Holy Founder when he was visiting his Institute); there the liturgical vestment were changed and those present venerated the holy relics secured with the wax seal of the Curia of Parma and the Postulation and the stamp of the Local Health Authority of the Emilia-Romagna Region. After replacing the cushion, the episcopal ring and pectoral cross that had already been in the urn were again put back in place. These were offered on December 13^th, 1964 by Msgr. Carlo Maggiolini who made a rather prophetic dedication: ‘I offer this cross and ring for Blessed Conforti.’ Indeed, at the time of the donation, Msgr. Conforti was still a Servant of God. However, even during his lifetime, many regarded Conforti as a saint.

The interior upholstery of the sarcophagus that contains the urn has also been renovated. Its paper was a pink damask that had become discoloured. Leonardo Carusillo, from the Centro Parati in Parma, procured the wallpaper (royal damask) and applied it to the inside of the sarcophagus. Gold trimmings donated by Claudio Folli, owner of the religious-items shop FAPS, were glued to the upper inner edges.

Once the procedures were completed, the urn was re-placed in the sarcophagus during a moment of prayer and veneration led by Bishop Natale Paganelli, Regional Superior of Italy, accompanied by fellow brothers and faithful present. Bishop Natale thanked Rev. Francesco Ponci, Rev. Paolo Salvadori, Rev. Giovanni Coruzzi, the Ancelle dell’Immacolata Sisters and Fr. Denis Iurigh for the realisation of this beautiful devotional project.
