Circoscrizione del Messico
Nel paese, la situazione è molto incerta perché, purtroppo, il nostro Presidente non vuole capire la gravità della pandemia e sta affrontando il problema con un atteggiamento mediocre e superficiale. Grazie a Dio, alcuni governatori e uomini d'affari, così come una buona parte della popolazione, stanno prendendo le misure necessarie. La Conferenza episcopale sin dall'inizio ha dato chiare linee guida alle comunità ecclesiali. I confratelli stanno bene e seguono le misure di isolamento necessarie che ci sono indicate. Grazie ai mezzi digitali, siamo in contatto l'uno con l'altro. Anche a livello di regione, facciamo i nostri incontri con questi stessi mezzi. Servizi pastorali, scuole, seminari minori sono attualmente chiusi.
A Città del Messico i contagi aumentano. Per questo, l’isolamento in comunità è più stretto ed evitiamo di uscire. Usiamo vie alternative per il rifornimento di tutto ciò che occorre per la casa e ci facciamo aiutare da alcune persone. Finora, in comunità, grazie a Dio, tutti stiamo bene.
C’è un’esperienza molto bella nella nostra comunità. In questi giorni di pandemia, le celebrazioni della Settimana Santa, l’Eucaristia dei giovedì e delle domeniche vengono trasmesse a tutti tramite Facebook. Molta gente apprezza e ci ringrazia per questa condivisione. Inoltre, sapendo che siamo in quarantena e che non usciamo, molti manifestano la loro solidarietà nei nostri confronti. Ci sono tante persone che spontaneamente ci portano offerte di ogni tipo: in denaro e anche in alimenti (che lasciano all’ingresso della casa). È un bel segno di solidarietà da parte della gente e una magnifica esperienza della Provvidenza che non ci fa mancare il necessario persino in questi momenti così difficili per tutti.
Per l’intercessione della Vergine di Guadalupe, chiediamo al Signore che liberi tutte le persone da questa terribile pandemia. (PP. Jorge Rosales & Rubén Macías S.)
Case di Formazione della Circoscrizione Camerun-Ciad
Nella casa della Propedeutica e della Filosofia di Bafoussam, stanno bene. La scuola di Filosofia del seminario diocesano è chiusa, ma gli studenti continuano a svolgere in casa i lavori assegnati dalla scuola. Quelli della propedeutica continuano i loro programmi, anche se gli insegnanti esterni non vengono e l’apostolato è sospeso. Per entrambe le tappe, le attività interne continuano normalmente (studio, cucina, pulizia, sport…) senza contatti esterni.
Nella Teologia di Yaoundé, le lezioni sono state sospese subito dopo il comunicato del primo ministro sullo stato di emergenza Covid-19. I confratelli si sono riuniti per discernere come vivere questo periodo di emergenza. Hanno riorganizzato l’orario e le attività comunitarie prendendo in considerazione le precauzioni richieste e proponendo l’adorazione continua, aperta ai parrocchiani, nella Parrocchia Jésus Bon Pasteur e garantendo la presenza di un membro della comunità ogni 30 minuti. Il clima comunitario è fraterno, gioioso e sereno. (P. Antonio López V.)
Circoscrizione della Tailandia
“Sono state prolungate per un altro mese le norme restrittive per evitare i contagi, compreso il totale lockdown dalle 22:00 alle 04:00. Ogni giorno si registrano nuovi contagi, ma con numeri limitati. Dall’inizio dell'epidemia ad oggi siamo arrivati a circa 3000 contagi. A Bangkok, più precisamente nella baraccopoli di Khlong Toey, dove risiedono i saveriani, non si possono riprendere le attività di formazione con gli studenti e gli adulti. In questo periodo, ogni giorno i saveriani, insieme ai volontari, distribuiscono cibo, mascherine, sapone e altre cose utili per i poveri, evitando il contatto con la gente, soprattutto gli ammalati e i bambini. Molto di questo materiale ci viene offerto da alcune congregazioni religiose, da ristoranti, da gruppi, associazioni e singoli laici tailandesi e stranieri. Anche al Nord le attività sono ridotte alla distribuzione di viveri e materiale utile per i poveri dei villaggi. I padri possono uscire regolarmente ma restano nella propria zona. Solo P. Alessio C. è in quarantena, perché era dovuto andare a Bangkok per rinnovare il visto. Il governo ha annunciato per luglio la riapertura della scuola. Però, già a giugno, si potrà probabilmente riprendere qualche attività. Stiamo approfittando di questo periodo di quarantena per tradurre, con l’aiuto dei catechisti che vivono con noi, le nostre Costituzioni in tailandese". (30 Aprile 2020, P. Alex Brai)
Circoscrizione delle Filippine
Finora, i casi ufficiali di Covid-19 sono di più di 8 mila e i morti accertati poco meno di 600. Il Governo Filippino ha ulteriormente esteso al 15 Maggio le misure straordinarie di quarantena. L’amministrazione sta cercando di mitigare il disagio della popolazione con aiuti economici e materiali. Tanti si auspicano un’apertura imminente. Purtroppo si constata che nuovi casi continuano ad apparire un po’ dappertutto, anche se in scala molto più ridotta rispetto ai paesi europei e agli Stati Uniti.
Continuiamo bloccati in casa, portando avanti le “solite” attività comuni e facendoci carico di tutti quei servizi che erano affidati al personale esterno: cucina, pulizie, lavanderia. L’attività nelle due parrocchie che gestiamo è ridotta al minimo e ha per lo più a che fare con iniziative caritatevoli. Ci è dato più spazio per la lettura, meditazione e anche per un po’ di ginnastica.
Avvalendosi di internet, i docenti della scuola di teologia han terminato on line il programma scolastico dell’anno. Qualche nostro confratello si è dato da fare per preparare e trasmettere in streaming, celebrazioni religiose, specialmente durante la settimana Santa.
Non potendosi incontrare fisicamente, si è ricorso all’internet per fare la riunione del consiglio di delegazione. Un nostro studente di teologia, su indicazione del medico che lo seguiva già da un paio di settimane, è stato messo in isolamento dalle autorità sanitarie come caso sospetto di Covid-19. Sta “bene”, è sereno e siamo in contatto costante con lui attraverso il cellulare. Dovrà rimanere nel centro per 2 settimane, e non avremo la possibilità di vederlo. È stato sottoposto a un test particolare e tra qualche giorno sapremo l’esito. Anche P. Cesar, che lo aveva accompagnato, è stato sottoposto a un soft test. Per precauzione, dovrà anche lui restare isolato per 2 settimane, però in casa.
All’interno di questa situazione di disagio, incertezza e sofferenza che ci accomuna a tante persone, dopo aver fatto la nostra parte ci affidiamo a Dio consapevoli che il nostro aiuto viene da Lui. Ci consolano le parole di Gesù: "Io sono il pane della vita chi viene a me non avrà fame e chi crede in me non avrà sete." (30 aprile, 2020 - P. Emanuele Borelli, sx)

México Circumscription
In the country, the situation is very uncertain since, unfortunately, our President does not want to understand how grave the pandemic is. He is facing the problem with mediocrity and a superficial attitude. Thank God, some governors and businessmen, as well as a good part of the population are acting properly. The Bishops Conference, from the beginning, gave clear guidelines to the ecclesial communities. The confreres are doing well and observing the required lockdown measures. Thanks to the digital means, we are in contact with each other and, at the Circumscription level, we have our meetings through these same means. Pastoral services, schools, minor seminaries are all closed at the moment.
In Mexico City, infections are increasing. That is why we avoid going out and our community isolation is tighter. We use alternative ways to get whatever we need for the house. We also avail ourselves of the help of some people from the outside. Thanks God, so far, in the community, we are all fine.
In this situation, in our community we are experiencing people’s goodness as well as God’s providence. In these days of pandemic, the celebrations of the Holy Week, the Thursday and Sunday’s Eucharist are broadcasted to all via Facebook. Many people appreciate and thank us for this sharing. Moreover, knowing that we are in quarantine, they show their solidarity with us. Many, spontaneously, bring us donations of all kind: from money to food (which they leave at the entrance door of the house). This is a beautiful sign of solidarity on the part of the people and a magnificent experience of God's Providence: He provides us with what is necessary even in these times which are difficult for all.

Cameroon-Tchad Formation houses
In the houses of the Propaedeutic and the Philosophy of Bafoussam, they are all fine. The philosophy school of the diocesan seminary is closed, but students continue to carry out the work assigned by the school at home. Those of the Propaedeutic continue their programmes, even though the external teachers do not come and the apostolate is suspended. For both stages, the internal activities continue normally (study, kitchen, cleaning, sports...) without external contacts.
In the theology community of Yaoundé, classes were suspended immediately after the Prime Minister's had issued the state of emergency Covid-19. The confreres had then gathered to discern how to live this period of emergency. They reorganized the community timetable and activities by taking precautions and proposing the continuous worship of the Eucharist, open to parishioners, in the parish of Jésus Bon Pasteur. Students ensured the presence of a community member every 30 minutes. The atmosphere in the community is fraternal, joyful and serene. (Fr. Antonio López V.)
Thailand Circumscription
"Restrictive measures to avoid contagion have been extended for another month, including the total lockdown from 10pm to 4am. Every day there are new infections even though the numbers are limited. Since the beginning of the epidemic, Thailand has recorded about 3000 infections. In Bangkok, more precisely, in the Khlong Toey slum, where the Xaverians reside, we cannot resume our formation activities with students and adults. During this time, every day the Xaverians, together with volunteers, distribute food, masks, soap and other useful things for the poor, avoiding contact with people, especially the sick and the children. Most of these goods are offered by some religious congregations, by restaurants, groups, associations and lay people from Thailand and abroad. In the North, too, activities are reduced to the distribution of food and useful material for the poor of the villages. Fathers can go out regularly but must stay in their area. Only Fr. Alessio C. is in quarantine, because of a trip he had to Bangkok to renew his visa. The government announced the reopening of schools in July. But it is probable that as early as June, some activity will be resumed. We are taking advantage of this quarantine period to translate our Constitutions into Thai, with the help of the local catechists who live with us " ( April 30, 2020, Fr. Alex Brai)
The Philippines Circumscription
So far, the official cases of Covid-19 are more than 8,000 and the confirmed deaths are just under 600. The Philippine Government has further extended the extraordinary quarantine measures to 15 May. The administration is trying to mitigate people's hardship with economic and material aid. Many, hope for an imminent reopening. Unfortunately, new cases continue to appear everywhere, albeit on a much smaller scale than in the European countries and the United States.
We continue to be stuck in the house, carrying out the "usual" common activities and taking charge of all those services that were entrusted to the external staff: kitchen, cleaning, laundry. The activity in the two parishes we administer is much reduced and has got mostly to do with charitable initiatives. We now have more time for reading, meditation and even for a bit of gymnastics.
Using the internet, the teachers of the theology school finished the school programme of the year online. Some of our brothers have been busy preparing and then streaming, religious celebrations, especially during the Holy Week.
Not being able to meet physically, the internet was used for the meeting of the delegation council. One of our theology students, upon the recommendation of the doctor who had been assisting him for a couple of weeks, was placed in confinement in a special centre by the health authorities as a suspicious case of Covid-19. He is "well" and serene. We are in constant contact with him through cell phone. He will have to stay in the centre for two weeks, and we will not be able to see him. He has undergone a special test and we will know the outcome in a few days. Fr. Cesar, who had accompanied him, was also subjected to a "soft" test. As a precaution, he also must be isolated for 2 weeks at our house.
In this situation of discomfort, uncertainty and suffering that unites us with so many people, after doing our part we rely on God knowing that our help comes from Him. We are consoled by the words of Jesus: "I am the bread of life who comes to me will not be hungry and those who believe in me will not be thirsty." (April 30, 2020 - Fr. Emanuele Borelli sx)
