Nel lontano 16 luglio 1951, il Saveriano p. Ugo Cattenati, invitato da un piccolo gruppo di laici cattolici, cercò un angolo per cominciare una storia: l’Instituto Cultural de Occidente, prima scuola Saveriana in Mazatlán e in Messico.

Il prossimo 3 settembre 2026 inizierà il giubileo dei 75 anni: è storia, è memoria, è presente, è futuro.  75 anni di  eredità, di identità, di missione, di servizio, di formazione di menti e cuori aperti e generosi. 75 anni, formando storia, lasciando orme. 75 anni fa, nel cuore di Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Messico, nasce una storia che continua a tracciare linee di formazione, di generazione in generazione.

Consolidare l’eredità educativa, umana e spirituale dell’Instituto Cultural de Occidente, è e sarà il cuore della celebrazione del giubileo. Desideriamo celebrare con  profonda gratitudine al Signore, soddisfazione e sano orgoglio il giubileo dei 75 anni di storia di questo “Instituto”. L’ Instituto Cultural de Occidente, istituzione formativa, educativa, appartenente alla Congregazione dei Missionari Saveriani, per più di 70 anni ha accompagnato migliaia e migliaia di bambini e giovani nel cammino della loro formazione.

Onorare con umiltà questo compito e missione, e le generazioni di laici che han reso possibile questa opera, è giubileo: fortificare l’identità e il senso di appartenenza al carisma di Mons. Conforti e alla famiglia ICO. In questo anno giubilare, la comunità dell’ICO è impegnata a trasmettere alla società, la bellezza e l’importanza di una missione che continua a seminare valori di vita per fare del mondo una sola famiglia in Cristo. Back on July 16^th, 1951, the Xaverian Father Ugo Cattenati, invited by a small group of lay Catholics, sought out a spot to begin a new chapter: the Instituto Cultural de Occidente, the first Xaverian school in Mazatlán and in Mexico.

On September 3^rd, 2026, the 75^th-anniversary celebration will begin: it is history, it is memory, it is the present, and it is the future. This is a 75-year long legacy of identity, mission, service, formation of minds and of open and generous hearts. They have been 75 years of a history that produced many fruits. This experience that, generation after generation, continues tracing new formation perspectives, was born 75 years ago in the heart of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. Consolidating the educational, human, and spiritual legacy of the Instituto Cultural de Occidente will be at the heart of the jubilee celebration. We wish to celebrate the 75^th anniversary of this “Instituto” with deep gratitude to the Lord, with a sense of fulfilment, and with a healthy pride.

The Instituto Cultural de Occidente, is an educational agency belonging to the Congregation of the Xaverian Missionaries. It has trained thousands upon thousands of children and young people for more than 70 years.

Jubilee means to honour with humbleness this educational mission, as well to honour generations of lay people who made it possible. Jubilee means fostering the sense of identity and of belonging to both the charism of Msgr. Conforti and the family of ICO. Thus, in this jubilee year, the community of ICO will be committed to transmitting to society the beauty and importance of a mission that keeps on sowing life values in order to make of the world one single family in Christ.
