Abbiamo celebrato la Giornata della Fraternità Umana a Mdiq, dove ha sede la Chiesa di San Francisco de Asís affidata ai Saveriani. È stato tramite zoom per vari motivi: il più importante è che la signora Latifa Ibn Zaiten non è potuta arrivare a causa della chiusura dei confini. Latifa è la donna che l'anno scorso, nella prima edizione, ha ricevuto il Premio Zayed, assegnato insieme ad Antonio Guterres, Segretario Generale dell'Onu, dall'AltoComitato della Fraternità Umana. La signora Latifa, naturalizzata francese, ma originaria di Mdiq, è la fondatrice dell'Associazione Imad Pour la Jeunesse et la Paix. L’Associazione nasce con lo scopo di onorare la morte di suo figlio: Imad Ibn Ziaten. Imad era un giovane soldato francese ucciso da un terrorista l'11 marzo 2012 per il solo fatto di essere un semplice soldato. Il corpo di Imad è sepolto nel cimitero di Mdiq. Ci siamo recati insieme al cimitero per rendere un semplice omaggio alla sua tomba, nella certezza che la vita di Imad, anche dopo la morte, continua ad accompagnare il grande lavoro che sua mamma, la signora Latifa, sta facendo a favore della Fraternità Umana. Latifa è davvero felice di incontrare i cristiani di Mdiq la prossima settimana e la sua testimonianza è un altro prezioso segno del suo costante impegno di uscire all’incontro dell’altro e promuovere il dono e la responsabilità della Pace a favore dei giovani nell'orizzonte della fraternità universale. We celebrated the Day of Human Fraternity in Mdiq, where the St Fracis of Assisi Church entrusted to the Xaverians is located. The event took place via Zoom platform for different reasons, the most important being that Mrs Latifa Ibn Zaiten could not reach us because the frontiers have been closed. Latifa is the lady whom, together with UN General secretary, Antonio Guterres, the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity awarded the Zayed Prize on its first edition last year. Born in Mdiq, Mrs Latifa is a naturalised French citizen and founder of Association IMAD pour la Jeunesse et la Paix. This association was created with the aim of honouring the memory of her deceased son, Imad Ibn Ziaten. Imad was a young French soldier murdered by a terrorist, on March 11th, 2012, only because he was a regular soldier. Imad was laid to rest in the cemetery of Mdiq. We went together to the cemetery to pay a simple homage to his tomb. We are certain that, even after his death, Imad’s life continues accompanying the great work his mother is carrying out on behalf of Human Fraternity. Mrs Latifa is really happy to meet the Christians of Mdiq next week. Her witness is another precious example of her constant effort to reach out to others and promote the gift and responsibility of peace among the youth within the horizon of universal fraternity.
