Ho frequentato il seminario Proteggere i Bambini di Dio (Protecting God’s Children) tenutosi nella parrocchia di San Giovanni Evangelista (Hopkinton, Massachusetts). Si tratta di un requisito imposto dall’Arcidiocesi di Boston a parroci, religiosi, collaboratori laici e chiunque lavori nell’Arcidiocesi. Per i sacerdoti, poi, è una condizione necessaria al fine di ottenere dall’Arcivescovo il nullaosta per l’esercizio del ministero.
Il seminario sulla protezione dei minori e vulnerabili è stato intenso, pratico e di facile comprensione. Gli animatori degli incontri erano ben formati e avevano ben preparato le presentazioni. Personalmente, ho apprezzato molto gli Stati Uniti per il modo in cui hanno attivato questo programma. Esso si rivolge a chi opera in quei campi dove si entra a contatto con bambini e giovani; dunque, non riguardava solo i parroci e gli agenti pastorali, ma anche gli educatori e insegnanti nelle scuole, e negli ambienti di educazione fisica e sportiva, negli uffici pubblici e simili.
Al seminario è stata fatta una presentazione introduttiva incentrata sui differenti tipi di abuso, specialmente sui bambini e giovani. Gli abusi sui minori e vulnerabili non sono successi soltanto nella chiesa, ma anche in altre istituzioni. A seguito dello scandalo degli abusi di minori da parte di sacerdoti, le Diocesi statunitensi hanno attivato un programma rigoroso di protezione dei bambini e vulnerabili.
Nel corso del seminario ci sono state fornite delle linee guida su come agire e rispondere in modo adeguato ed immediato qualora ci si imbatta in casi che coinvolgono minori e vulnerabili, chiunque essi siano. E’ importante saper riconoscere quei segnali che rivelano un comportamento inappropriato da parte degli adulti quando essi trattano con bambini e giovani, come è pure fondamentale operare una selezione coscienziosa degli impiegati e volontari nelle istituzioni. Va sempre monitorata la sicurezza degli ambienti, soprattutto quelli in aree più remote, e dell’uso delle tecnologie – in particolare i tipi di siti web accessibili ai bambini. I attended the Seminar on “Protecting God’s Children” in St. John Evangelist Parish (Hopkinton, Massachusetts). This is a requirement from the Archdiocese of Boston for the Church Pastors, Religious, Lay workers and the like who will work in the Archdiocese. For the Priests, the seminar is a pre-requisite to obtain the Faculty from the Archbishop.
The Seminar on the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable was intensive, practical and well-simplified. The facilitators are well-prepared and trained. In this way, I admire the United States for the implementation of this program.
It is intended for those who are working in various fields that have contacts with children and youth not just for the church pastors and workers but also for educators and teachers in schools, sports training and facilities, medical workers in hospitals, household workers and friends, civil authorities, government offices and the like.
In the Seminar, they gave a preliminary presentation that focused on the different kinds of abuses especially on the children and youth.
The abuses of minors and vulnerable have not happened only in the church but also in other institutions. With the current issues of Church abuses of minors involving Priests, the U.S. Dioceses take the program rigorously in order to protect the children and vulnerable from harm.
They gave guidelines how to act and response properly and immediately when we encounter cases involving minors and vulnerable wherever we are. To know behavioral warning signs of adults that are inappropriate actions exhibited when dealing with children and youth. For those who are in institutions, to screen and select well employees and volunteers.
