I Saveriani che vivono a Roma si sono ritrovati in Viale Vaticano 40 per l’ultima giornata di ritiro dell’anno accademico 2025-2026. I ritiri, quest’anno sono stati animati dalla biblista Rosanna Virgili. Su suggerimento degli stessi Saveriani, nei ritiri sono state previlegiate le figure femminili dell’ Antico e Nuovo Testamento nella storia della Salvezza.

Nell’ultimo ritiro di sabato 23 maggio 2026, l’esegeta Virgili ha fatto notare come con la sua teologia, San Paolo, detronizzi la Legge e la circoncisione, insistendo sulla fede in Cristo come unico mezzo di giustificazione. In questo modo S. Paolo inserisce nella discendenza di Abramo tutti gli uomini e donne per il puro dono della fede. E così egli demolisce il patriarcato nella storia della salvezza e anche quello imperante fra le mura domestiche nell’epoca greco-romana del suo tempo.

Nella celebrazione eucaristica sono stati condivisi alcuni frutti di questo cammino percorso insieme. Il pranzo è stato l’occasione anche per celebrare alcuni compleanni, augurando ai nostri confratelli studenti e professori una proficua sessione degli esami - ormai prossima - per il bene della missione. 

The Xaverians living in Rome gathered at Viale Vaticano 40 for the last day of retreat of the academic year 2025-2026. This year, the monthly retreats were led by Bible scholar Rosanna Virgili. Following suggestions by the Xaverians themselves, in all the retreats she focused on women of the Old and New Testament and their role within the history of Salvation.

In the last retreat, on Saturday, May 23^rd, 2026, the exegete Virgili pointed out that, through his theology, St Paul dethroned the Law and circumcision and emphasized faith in Christ as the sole means of justification. As a result, by virtue of the sheer gift of faith, all men and women are included in the lineage of Abraham. This is how St Paul moves beyond the patriarchal model present along the history of salvation, while condemning also the patriarchy that dominated within the Greek-Roman families of his age.

Some of the fruits of this journey we have taken together were shared during the Eucharistic celebration. Lunch provided an opportunity to celebrate a few birthdays and to wish our confreres (students and professors)  who are currently studying every success for the good of the mission in their upcoming exams.
