La Chiesa marocchina ha vissuto la gioia della canonizzazione di Charles de Foucauld, domenica 15 maggio 2022. Dall'estate del 2020, subito dopo l'annuncio della sua canonizzazione, è stata costituita dalle arcidiocesi di Rabat e Tangeri un'équipe interdiocesana per preparare diverse attività: ritiri, video, articoli e un ritiro itinerante.

Charles de Foucauld ha esplorato il Marocco nel 1893. Ha scritto un libro "Reconnaissance du Maroc". Ha ricevuto il premio della Società di Geografia di Parigi. In quel viaggio si travestì da ebreo e, sebbene non avesse fede, scriverà - anni dopo - all'amico Henry de Castries: “L'Islam ha prodotto in me uno shock profondo. La vista di questa fede, di queste anime che vivono alla continua presenza di Dio, mi ha fatto intravedere qualcosa di più grande e più vero delle occupazioni mondane. Ho iniziato a studiare l'Islam, poi la Bibbia".

La sua esperienza spirituale segna la Chiesa del Marocco e ci incoraggia a continuare ad annunciare il Vangelo con la nostra vita, come ha fatto lui.

La delegazione proveniente dal Marocco che ha partecipato alla Messa di Canonizzazione a Roma, ha ora il compito di animare le diocesi, promuovendo la fraternità universale e percorrendo cammini foucaultiani all'insegna della semplicità e della gentilezza, accogliendo e sapendo farsi accogliere dal popolo musulmano. La nostra missione è segnata da un'umanità reciproca che vive l’accoglienza e cammina verso Dio. (Rolando Ruíz Duran sx)

The Church living in Morocco rejoiced for the canonization of Charles de Foucauld, on Sunday, May 15^th, 2022. Since the summer of 2020, just after the announcement of the canonization, in the Archdiocese of Rabat an inter-diocesan team was set up for the celebrations. Various activities were prepared: retreats, video material, articles and an itinerant retreat. Charles de Foucauld explored  Morocco in 1893. His book, Reconnaisance du Maroc, won the prize of the Geographical Society of Paris. During that trip, at a time when he was not a believer, he disguised as a Jew. Years later, he would write to his friend Henry de Castries: “Islam produced shocked me deeply. Seeing the faith of those souls, who constantly live at the presence of God, made me catch a glimpse of something greater and truer of mundane occupations. I began studying Islam and then the Bible.” His spiritual experience marks the Moroccan Church and encourages us to continue proclaiming the Gospel through our own lives, as he did. Now, the Moroccan delegation that took part at Canonization Mass in Rome has the task to sensitise the diocese to universal brotherhood and by walking the Foucaultian paths of simplicity and gentleness, by welcoming and allowing to be welcomed by the Muslim people.
