Papa Francesco, giovedì 21 novembre 2024, ha pubblicato una lettera dedicata allo studio dellastoria della Chiesanella formazione di religiosi, sacerdoti e operatori pastorali dove afferma che “nessuno può conoscere veramente chi è e che cosa intende essere domani senza nutrire il legame che lo connette con le generazioni che lo precedono”. Nel documento, che si colloca in continuità con la Lettera pontificia sul ruolo della letteratura nella formazione (4 agosto 2024), Francesco invita a promuovere, nei giovani studenti di Teologia, “una reale sensibilità storica” per “mantenere accesa la fiamma della coscienza collettiva”, poiché “la memoria è garanzia e stimolo per costruire un futuro più giusto e fraterno…”.
La vera sfida oggi è promuovere “non solo la conoscenza approfondita e puntuale dei momenti più importanti dei venti secoli di cristianesimo che ci stanno alle spalle, ma anche e soprattutto il sorgere di una chiara familiarità con la dimensione storica propria dell’essere umano…” (Cesar Da Silva sx)
THE STUDY OF CHURCH HISTORY IN THE TRAINING FOR PRIESTHOOD
On Thursday, November 21st, 2024, Pope Francis published a letter on the study of Church history in the training of religious, priests and pastoral agents. He states that “No one can truly know their deepest identity, or what they wish to be in the future, without attending to the bonds that link them to preceding generations.” In this Letter, which follows the one (August 4th, 2024) dedicated to the role of literature in education, Francis emphasises the importance of developing “a genuine sense of history” in young students of theology “to keep the flame of collective conscience alive” for “it is a memory that ensures and encourages the building of a more fair and fraternal future.”
Today’s challenge is to promote “not only a solid and detailed knowledge of major events in the past twenty centuries of Christianity, but also and above all, the cultivation of a clear sense of the historical dimension that is ours as human beings.” (Cesar Da Silva sx)
