Il 24 maggio 2023 la comunità delle Missionarie di Maria - Saveriane di Roma ha il dono di celebrare la memoria grata del gesto di fede che rese la Ven. Celestina Bottego Madre delle Missionarie di Maria.

In un contesto di ritiro spirituale, il 24 maggio 1944 Celestina pronunciò il suo “Sì” alla proposta di p. Giacomo Spagnolo sx di collaborare alla fondazione del ramo femminile della Congregazione missionaria saveriana, dopo un periodo di travaglio interiore e di resistenza. A quel ritiro, predicato da p. Giacomo, a Capriglio, luogo di sfollati per la guerra in atto, erano presenti anche alcuni padri e studenti saveriani. Il biglietto augurale, inviatole da p. Giacomo in occasione della Pasqua, con la raffigurazione del Crocifisso e una semplice parola, “Tutto”, l’aveva scossa. Quella parola – scrive P. Giacomo nel suo Diario – voleva esprimere la completezza della donazione di Gesù e la sua attesa di un dono totalitario da parte della creatura. Essa comprese…

P. Giacomo fissò nel suo Diario la memoria di quel 24 maggio, concludendo: “Oggi la società ha trovato la sua fondatrice, che al Signore dice il suo ‘fiat’”.

Quest’anno, renderà ancor più vivo il nostro grazie al Signore la presenza dei fratelli saveriani che vivono e lavorano a Roma. La celebrazione eucaristica sarà presieduta dal vicario generale p. On May 24^th, 2023, the community of the Xaverian Missionary Sisters of Mary in Rome will gratefully celebrate the memory of a special deed of faith by means of which the Ven. Celestina Bottego became the Mother of the Missionary Sisters of Mary.

During a spiritual retreat, on May 24^th, 1944, and after a period of inner struggle and reluctance, Celestina uttered her “Yes!” in answer to Fr. Giacomo Spagnolo’s proposal to collaborate on the founding of the female branch of the Xaverian missionary Congregation. Preached by Fr. Giacomo, that recollection in Capriglio – a place of refugees fleeing from the war then-raging – was attended also by some Xaverian fathers and students. She had previously received from Fr. Giacomo a card of Easter wishes with an image of the Crucifix and one simple word, “Tutto” (“Everything”), which shocked her. That word – Fr. Giacomo would later write in his Diary – was meant to express Jesus’ complete self-giving and his waiting for the creature’s total offering in return. She understood…

Fr. Giacomo recorded in his Diary the memory of that May 24^th, and concluded: “Today, the society has found its mother founder, who said her ‘fiat’ (your will be done) to the Lord. ”

This year, the presence of our Xaverian brothers that live and work in Rome will make our thanksgiving to the Lord even more joyful. The celebration of the Mass will be presided over by Vicar General, Fr. Mario Carmelo Mula s.x., and will be followed by a fraternal meal with the entire Xaverian family in Rome.
