La mattina del 22 dicembre 2012, all’ospedale di Parma, è morto per scompenso cardiaco P. Carlo Lucini. Dal febbraio del 2011 era in cura in Casa Madre.
Aveva 77 anni compiuti, essendo nato a Vidiceto di Cingia de’ Botti (Cremona) il 29.11.1935.
Dopo le elementari P. Carlo fece la scuola Tecnica commerciale (46-50). Nel 1950 entrò nel Seminario vescovile di Cremona dove rimase fino alla conclusione della terza liceo (1957). Ai primi di luglio del ’57 inviò formale domanda al P. Generale di essere accolto tra i Saveriani. Nell’occasione scrisse anche al P. Maestro (9.7.57): «Con una gioia incontenibile le scrivo questa mia lettera. Con il consenso del Padre Spirituale, dei Superiori e dei miei cari genitori ho deciso di farmi missionario. Sinceramente parlando non lo so ancora adesso che cosa mi abbia fatto prendere questa ferma decisione: sta di fatto che ci pensavo già dal principio della prima liceo. In seguito ho avvicinato diversi Padri Saveriani che venivano nel seminario di Cremona e da loro mi sono informato sulla vita missionaria: ricordo P. Vanzin, P. E. Morazzoni». E nella domanda di ammissione alla Prima Professione (17.8.58) scrisse: «Partendo dal Seminario per il Noviziato saveriano avevo ben scolpiti nel cuore fermi propositi di raggiungere la meta che il Signore mi indicava nella sua bontà. Avevo allora un gran desiderio di donarmi totalmente al Signore, ma non conoscevo ancora quello spirito di famiglia che per un anno mi avrebbe circondato e penetrato. E non conoscevo tanti doveri che mi sarei assunto». Il P. Maestro e il suo Vice sottolinearono la socialità e la buona volontà del P. Carlo: «Molto socievole, carattere sodo. È uno di quelli che hanno avuto bisogno di meno richiami. Nei lavori manuali, anche pesanti e umili, è tra quelli che riescono meglio».
Emessa la Professione (15.9.58), raggiunse Parma per la teologia. All’inizio del quarto anno, 15.10.1961, fu ordinato presbitero.
Dopo l'ordinazione fu destinato alla Gran Bretagna per lo studio dell’inglese e per dare una mano nel seminario minore saveriano di Coatbridge. Vi rimase per ben 12 anni: insegnante (63-75), aiuto economo (63-69) e vicerettore (69-75). «Lavorava sodo! – ha scritto P. Borghesi (28.12.2012) – A scuola e in cucina; con la vecchia macchina ‘offset’ per preparare giornalini e dispense scolastiche. E poi il ministero. P. Carlo dava sicurezza e infondeva serenità ed allegria. E poi era uomo capace di fare mille lavori: dalla meccanica all’elettricità; dalla scuola alla cucina. Se c’era lui tutto andava bene».
Nel 1975 fu destinato alla Sierra Leone. Fece un anno di aggiornamento a Londra e nel 1976 raggiunse la missione. Fu impressionato dalla povertà del paese. «Eppure, col tempo, vivendo ogni giorno a fianco alla gente, mi accorsi che i sierraleonesi mostravano un senso di serenità, una specie di accettazione pacifica della situazione, come non ho mai trovato altrove». Fu impegnato come Viceparroco a Magburaka (76-78) e poi, come Parroco, a Kambia (78-83).
A Kambia comparvero seri problemi di salute. Rientrò in Italia per cure e aggiornamento (79-80). E così dovette fare anche nel 1983 e nel 2000.
Nel 1984 fu ridestinato alla Scozia: Rettore e Economo di Glasgow (84-90), «Ricordo il suo ottimo rapporto con i nostri ragazzi del College di Coatbridge. Grazie alla sua padronanza dell’Inglese comunicava facilmente e in modo brillante» (P. Piero Lazzarini, 15.1.13).
Nel 1991 ritornò in Sierra Leone e vi rimase fino al 2006: fu Vice Parroco a Lunsar, parroco a Bumbuna (93-99), Rettore della Casa Regionale a Makeni (01-06). «Rimase in Sierra Leone, prodigandosi per il bene della gente. Lavorò bene nella pastorale, con i catechisti, con i bambini delle elementari, con gli ammalati, con tutti. Era gioviale e spontaneo anche se qualche volta, specialmente quando non era in perfette condizioni fisiche, si infastidiva. Ma tornava subito al suo buon umore» (P. Brioni, 22.12.12). «Anche a Makeni, Rettore della Casa regionale (01-06), P. Carlo si mostrò e agì come l’avevo da sempre conosciuto: organizzazione e ordine, cura dell’ambiente, attenzione ai confratelli» (P. Piero Lazzarini).
Trascorse gli ultimi anni nella comunità di Cremona, addetto al ministero e all’accoglienza. Dal febbraio del 2011 era in cura a Parma.

Fr. Carlo Lucini died of heart failure, on 22 December 2012, in hospital (Parma). He had been receiving nursing care in the Mother House since February 2011.
Born in Vidiceto di Cingia de’ Botti (Cremona, Italy) on 29 November 1935, he was 77 years old.
In 1950 Fr. Carlo joined the seminary of Cremona where he remained until the conclusion of the third year of Lyceum (1957). In July 1957 he sent an application to the Superior General asking to join the Xaverians. He also wrote to the Novice Master (9.7.57): «I am writing to you with irrepressible joy. With the consent of my Spiritual Director, Superiors and beloved parents I have decided to become a missionary. In all honesty, I must say that I do not yet know what led me to this firm decision, but I have been thinking about it since the beginning of the first year of Lyceum. Thereafter, I approached various Xaverian Fathers who visited the Cremona seminary and they told me about the missionary life: I remember Fr. Vanzin and Fr. E. Morazzoni».
In his application for admission to First Profession (17.8.58) he wrote: «I came from the Seminary to the Xaverian Novitiate with the clear intention to achieve the goals that the Lord in his goodness was proposing to me. I was inspired by a great desire to give myself totally to the Lord, but I did not yet know the family spirit that would pervade me and surround me during that year. Nor did I know anything about the many duties that I would be taking on ». The Novice Master and his assistant emphasized Fr. Carlo’s sociable nature and good will: «He is very sociable and possesses a solid character. He is among those who did not need to be reprimanded very often. He stood out for his performance in manual work, even when heavy and demanding ones ».
After his Profession (15.9.58), he went to Parma to study theology, where he was ordained priest on 15 October 1961.
After his ordination, he was sent to Great Britain to study English and to help in the Xaverian minor seminary in Coatbridge. He remained there for 12 years: as teacher (1963-75), assistant treasurer (1963-69) and vice-rector (1969-75). In the words of Fr. Borghesi (28.12.2012) «He was a hard worker in the school, the kitchen and the ministry. He used the old ‘offset’ printing machine to prepare bulletins and school notes. Fr. Carlo gave a sense of security, spreading serenity and cheerfulness. He was a jack of all trades: from mechanic to electrician; school and kitchen. When he was present, everything ran smoothly ».
In 1975 he was assigned to Sierra Leone. He did a one-year updating course in London before arriving in the mission in 1976. He was struck by the poverty of the country. «And yet, with time, living day by day alongside the people, I became aware that the Sierra Leoneans have a sense of serenity, a kind of peaceful acceptance of their situation, such as I have never found elsewhere ». He served as assistant priest at Magburaka (1976-78) and then as parish priest at Kambia (1978-83).
At Kambia serious health problems emerged and he returned to Italy for treatment and updating (1979-80). He had to do the same again in 1983 and 2000.
In 1984 he was reassigned to Scotland as Rector and Treasurer at Glasgow (1984-90). Fr. Piero Lazzarini writes (15.1.13): «I remember his excellent relationship with our boys at the college in Coatbridge. Thanks to his good command of English he communicated easily and in a brilliant manner ».
In 1991 he returned to Sierra Leone and remained there until 2006: he was assistant priest at Lunsar, parish priest at Bumbuna (1993-99) and Rector of the Regional House at Makeni (2001-06). Fr. Brioni writes (22.12.12): «He remained in Sierra Leone, working hard for the good of the people. He worked well in the pastoral ministry, with the catechists, the primary school children, the sick, with everyone. He was jovial and spontaneous, though he sometimes showed some irritation, especially when he was not in perfect health, but his good mood returned immediately ». Finally, in the words of Fr. Piero Lazzarini: «In Makeni, as Rector of the Regional House (2001-06), Fr. Carlo was the man I had always known, famous for his organization and order, taking good care of the house, and attentive to the confreres ».
He spent his final years in the community of Cremona, helping in the ministry and hospitality.
From February 2011 he was in nursing care at Parma.
