Sabato 13 agosto 2016, verso le 01.00 ora locale, a Belém è morto P. Savino Mombelli. Aveva 88 anni compiuti. Era nato a Pontevico (Brescia-Italia) il 9 aprile 1928.
P. Savino frequentava la quinta ginnasio nel Seminario vescovile di Brescia quando fece domanda di essere accolto tra i Saveriani: “Da lungo tempo aspiro ad un genere di vita più perfetto e generoso, ed avendo avuto occasione di incontrarmi con i Padri di Grumone, ho cominciato ad aspirare alla loro vita religiosa missionaria … desidero solo consacrare la mia vita a fare del bene a tante povere creature prive della luce della fede” (23.9.46).
Entrò all'Istituto a S. Pietro in Vincoli il 16.10.1946, in Noviziato. Il 25.10.1947 emise la Prima Professione. Frequentò il Liceo a Desio (‘47-’50). Fu assistente dei Probandi e dei Fratelli a Parma (’50-’52). Studiò teologia a Piacenza (’52-’56) e a Piacenza fu ordinato presbitero il 4.6.1955. In questi anni di formazione di base si distinse per la creatività e intraprendenza: “volitivo e deciso, sente molto l’entusiasmo per la vocazione missionaria, che lo rende attivo e di iniziativa … Ha preso molto del nostro spirito ed è affezionato all’Istituto” (Presentazione alla Professione Perpetua).
Conclusi gli studi teologici ricoprì diversi incarichi in Italia. Dapprima come vicerettore, insegnante e animatore vocazionale a Udine (’56-’57) e a Brescia (’57-’59). Successivamente a Parma (’59-’64) Direttore del movimento Centro Educazione Missionaria, e delle riviste Didattica Missionaria, Voci d’Oltre Mare. Infine a Roma (’64-’65) per la realizzazione dell’antologia Il mondo è tutto mio, sollecitata dalla editrice AVE.
Nel 1966 fu destinato all’Amazzonia brasiliana. Fu una comparsa, appena il tempo, mentre studiava la lingua a Belém, per scrivere a P. Bonardi: “Dopo sei anni di interesse alla universale famiglia umana, credo non ci fosse per me un posto più bello e interessante di questo. Qui ci sono tutte le stirpi del mondo e per di più fuse insieme a tutte le graduazioni, con i risultati più impensati” (23.3.66).
Nel gennaio del 1968 era di nuovo a Roma, Direttore del CEM, responsabile delle edizioni scolastiche dell’Editrice AVE e iscritto alla Pontificia Università Urbaniana per il Dottorato in Missiologia (conseguito l’8.1.72). Dal’70 al ’72 risiedette a Parma, impegnato a “trasformare il Centro Educazione Missionaria in Centro Educazione alla Mondialità. Quando il termine mondialità non si trovava ancora nei dizionari della lingua italiana” (Lett. a G. Zavalloni), il CEM/mondialità era decisamente schierato per la cultura del dialogo, della pace, della solidarietà, dei diritti umani e dell’ambiente. In quel periodo diresse anche Fede e Civiltà.
Nel 1972 ritornò definitamente in Brasile: lavorò nella scuola, nella pastorale e nell’assistenza ai più sfortunati. Per altri 45 anni.
Da 1974 al 2005 insegnò filosofia e teologia all’UFPa (Università Federale Parà), all’IPAR (Istituto di Pastorale Regione norte 2), al SENESC di Manaus, al Seminario S. Pio X e all’IRFP (Istituto Regionale per la Formazione Presbiterale).
Benchè impegnato quotidianamente nella scuola P. Savino non ha mai tralasciato il lavoro pastorale: aiuto ai confratelli, parroco a S. Maria Goretti nella favela di Guamà, coordinatore di area urbana, animatore della pastorale universitaria, predicatore di ritiri. Le iniziative per il riscatto integrale delle persone non si contano.
Alla radice della infaticabile attività di P. Savino, il carisma di S. Guido Maria Conforti:
Il Santo Vescovo “parlava spessissimo della fraternita universale […]. Vorrei dire che, su questo punto, Guido Maria Conforti fu un profeta dei nuovi tempi, del Concilio e della nuova missione che si sta formando sotto i nostri occhi. Una missione alla quale sono chiamate a svolgere la loro parte tutte le professioni umane, tutte le categorie sociali, tutte le scienze, le arti, le tecniche, le culture e le religioni” (8.11.2010).
Per il 50° di Ordinazione (4.6.05) P. G Lazzarini gli scriveva: “Ogni giorno della tua vita ti abbiamo visto impegnato a servizio del Vangelo tra i fratelli più poveri e bisognosi. E ringraziamo il Signore che ti ha dato alla nostra Congregazione. Dobbiamo riconoscere che, nonostante comprensibili e normali divergenze, hai sempre saputo esserci di stimolo perché fossimo fedeli alla nostra vocazione di celebranti: dell’Eucarestia, della fedeltà di Dio al suo popolo nella Nuova Alleanza, della giustizia e della fraternità tra tutti i popoli”

Fr. Savino Mombelli died on 13 August 2016, in Belém – Parà – Brazil. Born in Pontevico (Brescia-Italy), on 9 April 1928, he was 88 years old.
Fr. Savino was attending the fifth year of senior high school in the Seminary of Brescia when he applied to join the Xaverians: “For a long time now I have been aspiring to a more perfect and generous kind of life and, after meeting the Fathers at Grumone, I began to aspire to their religious missionary life … My only desire is to consecrate my life to do good for the poor people who are bereft of the light of faith” (23.9.46).
He joined the Institute in the novitiate community of S. Pietro in Vincoli on 16 October 1946 and made his First Profession on 25 October 1947. He attended senior high school in Desio (1947-50) and served as assistant to the candidate Brothers and professed Brothers in Parma (1950-52). He studied Theology in Piacenza (1952-56), where he was ordained priest on 4 June 1955. During these years of initial formation he stood out for his creativity and resourcefulness: “he is strong-willed, determined and very enthusiastic about the missionary vocation; he is active and shows initiative … He has embraced our spirit and loves the Institute” (Presentation to Final Profession).
After concluding his theology studies he served in various roles in Italy: vice-rector, teacher and vocation animator in Udine (1956-57) and Brescia (1957-59). Later, in Parma (1959-64), he was the Director of the Centro Educazione Missionaria and of the magazines Didattica Missionaria and Voci d’Oltre Mare. He then moved to Rome (1964-65) to prepare the Anthology Il mondo è tutto mio for AVE publishers.
In 1966 he was assigned to the Brazilian Amazons. On 23 March 1966, while he was studying the language in Belém, he wrote to Fr. Bonardi: “After six years of work on behalf of the universal human family, I believe that there is no better place for me than this one. All the races of the world are here, fused together in every combination with the most unexpected results”.
In January 1968 he was back in Rome, where he served as Director of CEM; he was put in charge of the scholastic section of AVE publishers and enrolled as a student at the Urbaniana University to study for a Doctorate in Missiology (which he obtained on 8.1.72). From 1970 until 1972 he resided in Parma where he “transformed the Centro Educazione Missionaria into the Centro Educazione alla Mondialità. At a time when the word mondialità was not yet found in any Italian dictionary” (letter to G. Zavalloni), CEM/Mondialità campaigned resolutely on behalf of a culture of dialogue, peace, solidarity, human rights and the defense of creation. During that period he also served as Director of Fede e Civiltà.
In 1972 he returned definitively to Brazil, where he worked in the school, pastoral ministry and assistance to the poorest people for another 45 years.
From 1974 until 2005 he taught Philosophy and Theology at UFPa (Federal University of Parà), at the IPAR (Pastoral Ministry Institute), at the SENESC of Manaus, at the St. Pius X Seminary and at the IRFP (Regional Institute for Priestly Formation).
Although he taught daily, Fr. Savino never neglected the pastoral work: he helped his confreres, was parish priest of S. Maria Goretti in the favela of Guamà, served as urban area coordinator, animator of the university pastoral ministry and preacher of retreats. He also made countless interventions on behalf of needy people.
The charism of St. Guido Maria Conforti was the inspiration of Fr. Savino’s tireless activity:
The Holy Bishop “spoke very often of universal fraternity […]. I would like to say that, on this point, Guido Maria Conforti was a prophet of the new times, of the Second Vatican Council and the new mission that is emerging before our eyes. A mission to which all the human professions, social categories, sciences, arts, technologies, cultures and religions are called to make their own contribution” (8.11.2010).
Fr. G Lazzarini wrote to him for the 50th anniversary of his Ordination (4.6.05): “Every day of your life we have seen you committed to the service of the Gospel among the poorest and most needy brothers. We thank the Lord for giving you to our Congregation. We must acknowledge that, despite the understandable and normal differences of opinion, you have always inspired us to be faithful to our vocation as celebrants of the Eucharist, of fidelity to God and his people in the New Alliance, of justice and fraternity among all the peoples”.

Le samedi 13 août 2016, vers 01h00, est mort le P. Savino Mombelli à Belém (Parà-Brésil). Il avait 88 ans, né à Pontevico (Brescia-Italia) le 09 avril 1928.
Pendant qu’il fréquentait la classe de 5ème du cours moyen au Séminaire de Brescia, P Savino demande d’être accueilli parmi les Xavériens : « J’aspire depuis longtemps à un genre de vie plus parfaite et généreuse, et voici qu’à l’occasion de ma rencontre avec les Pères de Grumone, j’ai commencé à aspiré à leur vie religieuse missionnaire… mon désir n’est autre que consacrer ma vie à faire du bien à tant de pauvres créatures privées de la lumière de la foi » (23.09.46).
Il est entré à l’Institut à S. Pietro in Vincoli le 16.10.1946, au noviciat. Le 25.10.1947 il fait la Première Profession. Il fait le deuxième cycle secondaire à Desio (47-50). Il fut assistant de candidats frère à Parme (50-52). Il étudie la théologie à Piacenza (52-56) et là même il est ordonné prêtre le 04.06.1955. Dans ces années de formation de base, il s’est distingué par une créativité entreprenante : « homme de volonté et de décision, il est enthousiaste pour la vocation missionnaire, ce qui le rend actif et plein d’initiative… il a fait sien notre esprit et aime l’Institut » (Présentation à la Profession Perpétuelle).
Terminés les études de théologie, il a assumé diverses charges en Italie. D’abord comme vice-recteur, enseignant et animateur vocationnel à Udine (56-57) et à Brescia (57-59). En suite à Parme (59-64) comme Directeur du mouvement Centro Educazione Missionaria, et des revues Didattica Missionaria, Voci d’Oltre Mare. En fin à Rome (64-65) pour la réalisation de l’anthologie Il mondo è tutto moi, à la demande des Editions AVE.
En 1966, il est destiné en Amazonie au Brésil. Ce fut une découverte qu’à peine, pendant qu’il étudiait la langue à Belém ; il écrivit au P. Bonardi : « Après six ans au service de la famille humaine universelle, je crois n’avoir jamais été dans un endroit plus belle et intéressant comme celui-ci. On trouve ici toutes les racines du monde, et en plus avec une harmonie à tous les niveaux, avec des résultats incroyables » (23.03.66)
En janvier 1968, il est de nouveau à Rome, Directeur du CEM, responsable des Editions Scholastiques AVE et Doctorant en Missiologie à l’Université Pontifical Urbaniana (obtenu le 8.01.72). De 70 à 72, il réside à Parme, engagé à « transformer le Centre d’Education Missionnaire en Centre d’Education à la Mondialité. A ce moment-là on ne trouvait pas encore le terme mondialité dans les dictionnaires italiens. » (Lettre à G. Zavalloni), le CEM/Mondialité était particulièrement orienté vers la culture du dialogue, de la paix et de la solidarité, des droits humains et de l’environnement. On dirait en ce temps-là aussi Fede e Civiltà (Foi et Citoyenneté).
En 1972 il rentre définitivement au Brésil où il travaille à l’école, en pastorale et dans l’assistance de démunis pendant 45 ans.
De 1974 à 2005 il dispense des cours de philosophie et de théologie à l’Université Fédérale de Parà, à l’Institut de Pastorale Région nord 2, au SENESC de Manaus, au séminaire Saint Pie X et à l’Institut Régional pour la Formation Presbytérale.
Malgré qu’il fût toujours engagé dans l’enseignement, P. Savino n’a jamais délaissé le travail pastoral : aide aux confrères, curé à Ste Marie Goretti dans la favela de Guamà, coordinateur de zone urbaine, animateur de la pastorale universitaire, prédicateur des retraites. Sans compter les initiatives de défense intégrale de la personne humaine.
Le charisme de Saint Guido Maria Conforti est à l’origine du courage et de l’activité du P. Savino : « Le Saint Évêque « parlait souvent de la fraternité universelle (…). Sur ce point, je voudrais dire que, Guido Maria Conforti fut un prophète des temps nouveaux, du Concile et de la nouvelle mission qui prend forme de nos jours. Une mission à laquelle sont appelées à participer toutes les professions humaines, toutes les catégories sociales, toutes les sciences, les arts, les techniques, les cultures et les religions » (8.11.2010).
A l’occasion de ses 50 ans d’ordination (04.06.05), P. G. Lazzarini lui écrivait : « Nous t’avons toujours vu engagé au service de l’Evangile parmi les frères plus pauvres et nécessiteux. Et nous rendons grâce à Dieu qui t’a fait don à notre Congrégation. Nous devons reconnaitre que, malgré des divergences compréhensibles et normales, tu as toujours su être un stimule pour que nous soyons fidèles à notre vocation de célébrants : de l’Eucharistie, de la fidélité de Dieu envers son peuple dans la nouvelle Alliance, de la justice et de la fraternité entre tous les peuples ».
Que son âme repose en paix.
