1937 - 2025
Mercoledì 30 aprile 2025, alle 19.30, presso Residencia Santa Teresa de Jornet delle Hermanitas de Los Ancianos Desamparados", a Carabanchel – Madrid, Spagna, è deceduto il nostro confratello p. Eulogio Cuéllar Muñoz.
P. Eulogio aveva 87 anni compiuti, essendo nato il 18 novembre 1937 a Vallelado (diocesi di Segovia), Spagna.
Fin da bambino, sente una attrattiva per la vita sacerdotale, ma le “contrarietà” della vita fanno raffreddare questa idea. Mentre lavora in Francia, il giovane Eulogio conosce i Missionari Saveriani grazie ad un cugino che in quegli anni si trovava tra i Saveriani.
Eulogio entra in Istituto (Araya-Vitoria) il 13 gennaio 1964 dove continua a frequentare il Ginnasio (1963-1966). Vive il Noviziato a Pozuelo de Alarcón (1966-1967) ed emette la prima professione religiosa e missionaria nello stesso luogo il 12 settembre 1967. Sempre a Pozuelo de Alarcón percorre tutta la sua formazione Saveriana: dal 1967 al 1969 frequenta la Filosofia e dal 1969 al 1973 la Teologia. Durante la formazione teologica emette la Professione Perpetua (23.03.1972) e riceve l’ordinazione presbiterale (30.09.1972).
Dopo l’ordinazione presbiterale, p. Eulogio rimane a Pozuelo de Alarcón, nella comunità della Teologia, per il servizio di Economo (1973-1977) e di Vicerettore (1974-1976).
Dal 1977 al 1989 p. Eulogio lavora in Colombia, più precisamente a Buenaventura, nella parrocchia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, prima come viceparroco (1977-1980) e poi come parroco (1980-1989). Nel 1983 partecipa all’ XI Capitolo Generale a Nemi.
Dal 1989 al 1993 viene destinato alla Spagna: animatore missionario a Madrid, Casa della Teologia (1989-1992) ed economo locale nella medesima comunità (1991-1992).
Dal 1993 al 2022 p. Eulogio ritorna in Colombia. Qui lavora quasi unicamente a Buenaventura nella parrocchia di Cristo Redentor dove svolge vari servizi: Viceparroco (1993-1994), Parroco (1994-2001), di nuovo viceparroco (2001-2020), Economo locale (2003-2005), Animatore Missionario (2009-2020) ed Economo Locale (2010-2020).
Nel 2006 partecipa ai “Tre Mesi” di formazione permanente a Tavernerio.
Dopo un anno come viceparroco nella parrocchia di San Francisco Xavier, Cali (2020-2021), p. Eulogio ritorna alla parrocchia di Cristo Redentor, Buenaventura, come viceparroco ed economo locale (2021-2022).
Dal 2022 apparteneva definitamente alla Circoscrizione della Spagna, in cura.
Reverendissimo Padre Generale,
dopo i giorni trascorsi in Spagna, vogliamo ringraziarla per la sua presenza in mezzo a noi. Nella sua visita, come un padre ha animato i suoi figli verso l’ideale da raggiungere. Nella sua visita vediamo come un prolungamento della missione degli Apostoli: l’imposizione delle mani alla gente, affinché lo Spirito discenda su di loro così da annunciare il Regno di Dio con la parola, i sacramenti e la testimonianza.
Siamo molto contenti e felici di questo dono che il Signore ha elargito a ciascuno di noi, chiamandoci ad essere suoi strumenti ed offrire a Lui i nostri corpi e le nostre vite affinché Egli possa continuare a rimanere vivo fra gli uomini, oggi, qui e domani dove lei Padre Generale ci vorrà mandare. In occasione della Festa del Fondatore ci siamo preparati con un ritiro. P. Pacifico Fellini ci ha presentato alcuni aspetti della persona del Fondatore per riflettere e sentirlo presente in mezzo a noi.
Gli studenti stanno tutti bene. Si tratta di un gruppo molto buono, con tanta voglia di lavorare. Con quello spirito di Fede che tanto ci inculcava il Fondatore e che i nostri formatori continuano a coltivare in noi, speriamo di andare sempre avanti… (Da una lettera scritta in spagnolo al Superiore Generale Mons. Mercoledì 30 aprile 2025, p. Eulogio sale in Cielo per contemplare la Gloria del Cristo Risorto e partecipare della vita eterna.

On Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. (local time), our 87-year old confrere Fr. Eulogio Cuéllar Muñoz passed away at Residencia Santa Teresa de Jornet of the Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados, in Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain. He was born on November 18th, 1937, in Vallelado (Diocese of Seville), Spain.
Even as a child, he felt an attraction to priestly life, but the “adversities” of life cooled down this idea. While working in France, the young Eulogio met the Xaverian Missionaries through a cousin that, in those years, was with the Xaverians.
Eulogio entered our Institute (in Araya, Vitoria) on January 13th, 1964, and continued attending junior high school (gymnasium, 1963-1966). He lived in Pozuelo de Alarcón for the year of novitiate (1966-1967); there, he made his first Religious and Missionary Profession (September 12th, 1967). In Pozuelo de Alarcón, he then went through the entire Xaverian training programme: from 1967 to 1969, he attended philosophical studies, and from 1969 to 1973 the theological ones. It was during his theological formation that he made the Perpetual Profession (March 23rd, 1972) and was ordained to the Priesthood (September 30th, 1972).
After the ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Eulogio remained in Pozuelo de Alarcón, in the Theologate, as Bursar of the community (1973-1977) and Vice-Rector (1974-1976).
From 1977 to 1989, Fr. Eulogio worked in Columbia, more precisely, in Buenaventura, in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, at first as Assistant Pastor (1977-1980), then as Pastor (1980-1989). In 1983, he took part in the XI General Chapter, in Nemi, Rome.
From 1989 to 1993, he was assigned to Spain, to work as mission awareness promoter in Madrid, at the Theologate (1989-1992), and then as Bursar of the same community (1991-1992).
From 1993 to 2022, Fr. Eulogio was back to Columbia. He worked almost always in Buenaventura, at Christ the Redeemer Parish, where he carried out various tasks: Assistant Pastor (1993-1994), Pastor (1994-2001), again Assistant Pastor (2001-2020), local Bursar (2003-2005), Promoter of Mission Awareness (2009-2020), local Bursar (2010-2020).
In 2006, he took part in the Three-Months ongoing formation programme in Tavernerio, Italy.
Fr. Eulogio spent one year as Assistant Pastor of St Francis Xavier Parish, Cali (2020-2021), then returned to Christ the Redeemer Parish in Buenaventura, as Assistant Pastor and local Bursar (2021-2022).
Finally, since 2022, he belonged to the Circumscription of Spain, where he retired for medical cares.
Most Reverend Father General,
after the days you spent in Spain, we want to thank you for your presence among us. During your visit, like a father, you encouraged your children to progress towards the ideal to be achieved. We consider your visit as an extension of the mission of the Apostles: the laying on of hands to the people so that the Spirit would descend upon them and enable them to proclaim the God’s Reign by word, sacraments and witness. We are grateful and happy for this gift that the Lord has bestowed on each one of us by calling us to be His instruments and offer our bodies and lives to Him so that He may continue to remain alive among men, today, here and tomorrow, wherever you Father General would like to send us.
On the occasion of Founder's Day, we prepared ourselves with a retreat. Fr. Pacifico Fellini illustrated to us some aspects of the Founder’s personality for our reflection and so that we may feel him present among us.
The students are all doing well. It is a very good group of boys eager to work. With that spirit of Faith, that the Founder took pains to instil in us and our formators continue cultivating in us, we hope to move forward always… (From a letter in Spanish written to the Superior General, Msgr. On Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, Fr. Eulogio went up to Heaven to contemplate the Glory of the Risen Christ and partake in life eternal.
