NOTE BIOGRAFICHE DI P. LEONE OCCHIO (1927-2018)
Il 13 settembre 2018, alle ore 22:40, è morto P. Leone Occhio. Avrebbe dovuto compiere 91 anni, essendo nato a Gallignano di Soncino (Cremona – Italia) il 02.12.1927
Nell’agosto del 1948 il giovane Leone decideva di entrare tra i Missionari Saveriani nella loro casa di Poggio S. Marcello. Dopo due anni di scuola media inferiore, nel 1950 si trasferì alla casa di S. Pietro in Vincoli per l’anno di noviziato alla fine del quale fece la Prima Professione (12.09.1951).
In seguito il giovane Leone passò a Desio per gli studi liceali (1951-1953) e a Cremona per il prefettato (1953-1954). Nel dicembre del 1954 partì come studente per il Brasile dove continuò gli studi teologici a Curitiba, e qui venne ordinato presbitero il 26.01.1958.
Con l’ordinazione iniziò il suo ministero missionario che svolse ininterrottamente in Brasile. Dopo un iniziale periodo come Vice parroco nella parrocchia N.S. de Fatima a Londrina (58-61), fu destinato al Brasile Nord, dove svolse dapprima il ruolo di Vice parroco nella cattedrale di Abaetetuba (61-64) e di Parroco nella parrocchia di Santa Maria a Tomé-Açu (64-65).
Rientrato in Brasile Sud alla fine del 1965, fu dapprima Direttore spirituale nel seminario di Jaguapitá (66-69), poi parroco a S. Paulo – Campo Gr.: S. Geltrude (69-71), parroco a Jaguapità: Parr. S. José (71-77), parroco a Campo Mourao (77-80).
Dopo essere stato Maestro dei Novizi a Nova Era (80-85) e a S. Luzia: Belo Horizonte (85-88), fu Parroco a Sumar – Rosolem (88-92) e parroco a Hortolandia (92-93), in seguito svolse il compito di Vice parroco a Piraju e Tejupa (93-94), a Pinhais (94-95) e a Melo Viana (95-04).
Dal 2004 al 2016 fu Vice parroco nella parrocchia S. Coração de Jesus, Guaianases, S. Paulo. Dal mese di aprile del 2016 si trovava nel Seminario Saveriano di Londrina.
Il 28 agosto 2018, a causa di una polmonite, p. Leone venne ricoverato nell’unità di cure intensive dell’ospedale di Aracauria (Londrina). Qui, il 13 settembre 2018, p. Leone fu introdotto al cospetto di Colui che aveva servito per tanto tempo e così ricevere il premio del servitore fedele.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES OF FR. LEONE OCCHIO (1927 – 2018)
Fr. Leone Occhio died on the 13th of September 2018, at 10:40 PM. He was born at Gellicano di Soncino (Cremona – Italy) on December 02, 1927. He was almost 91 years old.
On August 1948, the young Leone Occhio decided to enter the Seminary of the Xaverian Missionaries in the town of Poggio San Marcello. Two years later, he joined the Novices in the house of the Novitiate in the town of San Pietro in Vincoli. At the end of the year of Novitiate, Leone Occhio celebrated his First Religious Profession (September 12, 1951).
He moved then to Desio for his College Studies (1951-1953). He was in Cremona for his year as Students Prefect (1953-1954). In December 1954, Leone Occhio went to Brazil as a student of Theology in the Xaverian House of Curitiba, where he was ordained Priest on the 26th of January 1958.
Right after his priestly ordination, Fr. Leone Occhio initiated his ministry spent exclusively in the country of Brazil. Initially he acted as Assistant Parish Priest in the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima in Londrina (1958-1961). A year later, assigned to the Northern Region of Brazil, became Assistant Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Abaetetuba (1961-1964), and then Parish Priest of Saint Mary’s Parish in Tomé-Açu (1964-1965).
Reassigned to South Brazil in 1965, Leone became Spiritual Director in the Xaverian Seminary of Jaguapitá (1966-1969); then Parish Priest of St. Paul’s – Campo Gr.: St. Geltrude (1969-1971), Parish Priest in Jaguapitá: at San José Parish (1971-1977), and Parish Priest at Campo Mourao (1977-1980).
After having been Master of Novices at Nova Era (1980-1985) and at Santa Luzia of Belo Horizonte (1985-1988), Fr. Leone Occhio became Parish Priest at Sumar–Rosolem (1988-1992), Parish Priest at Hortolandia (1992-1993). Then, Assistant Parish Priest at Piraju (1993-1994), at Pinhais (1994-1995), and at Melo Viana (1995-2004).
From 2004 to 2016, Fr. Leone Occhio served as Assistant Parish Priest in the Parish of Sagrado Coração de Jesus, Guaianases, São Paulo. From April 2016, he was in the Xaverian Seminary of Londrina.
On August 28th 2018, due to bronchitis, Fr. Leone Occhio was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Aracauria Hospital (Londrina). From there, on September 13th, Fr. Leone Occhio left us to meet the Lord whom he had served all his life long as a faithful and loving servant.
