(Rosario Giannattasio sx)

50TH ANNIVERSARY OF RELIGIOUS AND MISSIONARY PROFESSION: “weaving threads of hope”
I am sure that 50 years of religious and missionary profession are not the result of my efforts, but the gift of the fidelity of God that, step after step, supported me.
I have seen God’s hand in all the experiences I went through – while accompanying young people in their vocational journey; in the birth and development of the Xaverian Laity; while staying among the poor of Buenaventura, Colombia, people scarred by violence; at the side of my confreres and the communities which the Xaverian family asked me to serve. God’s hand never tires of weaving threads of hope and opening new paths of life.
I have encountered faces, stories, friendships that shaped my life: men and women who revealed God’s face to me, often at the most fragile junctures. I say thank you to all, but also ask forgiveness if, because of my limits and lack of patience, at times I have not lived up to my vocation. I know that I have received infinitely more than I have ever given, and my life has indeed been full of joy.
I look at these 50 years with joy and peace in my heart: the choice I made keeps being for me the source of life. I have always tried to live out and communicate my youth motto, which I still feel as mine: determination and enthusiasm. It is with this spirit, and with the hope that does not disappoint, I continue my journey, certain that the Lord will again make new all things. (Rosario Giannattasio s.x.)
