Abbiamo iniziato il primo giorno del nostro incontro sulla formazione in Africa con la celebrazione eucaristica presieduta da p. Gabriel Basuzwa sx, superiore regionale della circoscrizione saveriana del Burundi. Alla luce della Parola del giorno, p. Gabriel B.  ci ha vivamente rivolto una parola di benvenuto a questo incontro che ci vede riuniti attorno all'ideale confortiano di fare del mondo una famiglia in Cristo: "Radicati nel Signore per trasmettere ai giovani l'eredità del Conforti". L'Eucaristia risveglia in noi l'entusiasmo missionario, allargando la nostra visione, oltre ai quattro continenti, dandoci la grazia necessaria di collaborare alla concretizzazione del sogno di San Guido Maria Conforti.

Dopo colazione, p. Fabien Kalehezo T’Chiribuka, conclusa la preghiera iniziale, ha dato la parola al Superiore Generale per l'apertura dell’Incontro. P. Fernando García Rodríguez ci ha ricordato il fatto che il 60 percento dei giovani presenti nelle nostre case di formazione proviene dal continente africano. Questo è per noi una sfida, un impegno e un dono. Il Superiore Generale ci ha esortato a vivere la multiculturalità come segno della presenza del Signore nella nostra famiglia, come un dono e mai come una minaccia. Davanti ad un così grande dono, sentiamo il dovere di fare del nostro meglio nell’accompagnare i giovani che il Signore continua a mandarci.

Abbiamo, infine, ascoltato le esperienze formative di alcuni confratelli in diversi periodi e nelle varie tappe del percorso formativo prima di ascoltare l'intervento della DG sul tema “Gesù Cristo Via Verità e Vita... modello del formatore”. (i partecipanti all’Incontro)

We started the first day of meetings on formation in Africa with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Gabriel Basuzwa s.x., regional superior of the Xaverian Circumscription of Burundi. Based on the Word of the day, Fr. Gabriel B. gave us a warm welcome to this Meeting; it is an event where we gather to share the Confortian ideal of forming a single Christian family embracing all humanity: “Rooted in the Lord to transmit Conforti’s legacy to the youth.” The Eucharist rekindles in us the missionary enthusiasm, expands our vision beyond the four continents, and gives us the necessary grace to collaborate to the realisation of St Guido Maria Conforti’s dream.

After breakfast, at the end of the opening prayer of the first session, Fr. Fabien Kalehezo T’Chiribuka gave the floor to the Superior General for the official beginning of the Meeting. Fr. Fernando García Rodríguez reminded us that 60 per cent of the young present in our formation houses come from the African continent. This fact is for us a challenge, a commitment and a gift. The Superior General exhorted us to welcome multiculturalism as a sign of God’s presence in our family, as a gift and never as a threat. In view of so great a gift, we consider it our duty to exert all efforts to accompany the young men the Lord continues sending us.

Then, we listened to experiences of formation shared by some confreres working in different periods and stages of the training programme. Finally, the GD introduced the theme Jesus Christ, Way, Truth, and Life – Model of Formators. (the Meeting’s participants)
