Domenica 5 novembre i confratelli della Delegazione del Mozambico hanno concluso le celebrazioni del giubileo dei 25 anni dall'arrivo dei primi confratelli in questo paese dell'Africa Australe. Era infatti il 2 marzo 1998 quando il primo gruppo di quattro Saveriani arrivarono in Mozambico. L'Eucaristia solenne celebrata a Dondo, prima parrocchia affidataci, e presieduta da p. Timoteo Bationo, vicario episcopale per la vita religiosa dell'Arcidiocesi di Beira, ha visto una grande partecipazione della comunità locale, ma anche le rappresentanze delle varie realtà che abbiamo servito e di quelle che ancora stiamo servendo: Chemba, Sena, Charre, Inhangoma e Doa. Ringraziamo Dio che ci chiama per servire il suo Regno e la sua Chiesa in questo contesto di primo annuncio.
Nei due giorni successivi i dieci confratelli della Delegazione si sono riuniti per la seconda delle due assemblee annuali. A partire da mercoledì 8 fino a domenica 12 stanno invece vivendo gli esercizi spirituali a Marera. Il tema degli esercizi è "Chiamati alla santità" ed ha come riferimento biblico Giovanni 15. CIRCUMSCRIPTION OF MOZAMBIQUE: XXV YEARS OF PRESENCE
On Sunday, November 5th, the confreres of the Mozambican Delegation concluded the celebrations marking the silver jubilee of the first Xaverians’ arrival in this Southern African country. Indeed, it was on March 2nd, 1998, when the first group of four Xaverians arrived in Mozambique. The solemn Eucharistic celebration in Dondo, the first parish entrusted to us, and presided over by Fr. Timoteo Bationo, Episcopal Vicar for consecrated life in the Archdiocese of Beira, was attended not only by a great number of people from the local community, but also by representative groups of other realities which we have ministered to and of those whom we are still serving: Chemba, Sena, Charre, Inhangoma and Doa. We are grateful to God who calls us to serve his Reign and his Church in this place of first Gospel proclamation.
In the two days that followed, ten confreres of the Delegation gathered for the second of the two-yearly assemblies. Then, from Wednesday 8th till Sunday 12th, they have been doing their spiritual exercises in Marera. Theme of the retreat was “Called to holiness” and took John 15 as Bible reference text.
