Mercoledì 5 ottobre, la comunità di Coatbridge ha ospitato un evento ecumenico, “Sfidare la Povertà”, durante la Challenge Poverty Week (Settimana di Sfida alla Povertà). Hanno partecipato rappresentanti della Chiesa Cattolica, della Chiesa di Scozia, della Comunione Anglicana, dei Cristiani Contro la Povertà e dell’Alleanza dei Poveri. È stata l’occasione, per persone di fede Cristiana, per radunarsi e condividere su come impegnarsi nell’azione contro la povertà. Abbiamo dato uno sguardo alla prassi nelle nostre chiese, nelle nostre comunità, a come si possa influenzare la politica e a come portare questo servizio nella preghiera. Ci si è resi conto che le Chiese Cristiane hanno bisogno di collaborare per avere una voce più forte ed influente nello sfidare la povertà presente nelle nostre comunità, nella nostra società e nel mondo. Come usare la nostra voce comune è qualcosa su cui è necessario impegnarsi di più. (Patrick Duffy s.x.)

On Wednesday October 5^th, the Coatbridge Community hosted an ecumenical “Challenge Poverty Event” during Challenge Poverty Week. There were representatives from the Catholic Church, Church of Scotland, The Anglican Communion, Christians Against Poverty and the Poverty Alliance. It was an opportunity for people with a Christian faith to come together and share how we engage in anti-poverty work. We looked at practice in our churches, in our communities, in how to influence policy and how we bring this ministry to prayer.

There was a realization that the Christian Churches need to work together to have a stronger and more influential voice in challenging poverty in our communities, in our society and in the world. How we use our collective voice is something we need to do more. (Patrick Duffy sx)
