In agosto 2017, il XVII CG al n. 72 affidava alla Direzione Generale il compito di costituire un’équipe per il Laicato Saveriano integrata da confratelli e laici, con la funzione di favorire la comunione tra i Laici Saveriani presenti nelle varie Circoscrizioni Saveriane e la Congregazione. A quest’équipe, si affidava anche il compito di elaborare un Vademecum dove fossero contemplati i termini e le modalità di collaborazione tra i Saveriani e il Laicato Saveriano. Nella sua programmazione, la Direzione Generale ha assunto questo orientamento del XVII CG e si è impegnata a costituire l’équipe per il Laicato Saveriano, affidandole – come richiesto dal XVII CG – l’elaborazione del Vademecum. L’équipe è stata costituita in ottobre del 2017 e, nell’arco del sessennio, si è radunata 13 volte. Ha anche mantenuto una regolare comunicazione con i gruppi di Laici Saveriani a cui ha inviato 8 lettere e li ha coinvolti in vari modi nell’elaborazione del Vademecum. 

In preparazione al XVIII CG svoltosi a Bukavu, Congo, in luglio 2023, l’équipe ha consegnato alla Direzione Generale la stesura finale del Vademecum da presentare e studiare in sede capitolare. Il XVIII CG ha accolto il Vademecum, lo ha approvato e, in sintonia con la proposta dell’équipe, lo ha nominato “Laicato Saveriano: Elementi caratterizzanti”. Dopo la presentazione del Superiore Generale e le parole del XVIII CG, questo documento capitolare introduce l’argomento sul Laicato Saveriano e poi lo sviluppa in 5 parti: 1) Carisma e Saverianità; 2) Formazione dei Laici Saveriani; 3) Autonomia giuridica ed economica del Laicato Saveriano; 4) Organizzazione del Laicato Saveriano e 5) Rapporto tra Laicato Saveriano e le altre componenti della Famiglia Carismatica Saveriana. In chiusura, si trova una breve conclusione.

Dopo un percorso di elaborazione lungo e impegnativo, la Direzione Generale presenta ora a tutta la Congregazione e a tutto il Laicato Saveriano l’edizione ufficiale – in italiano e inglese – del documento  “Laicato Saveriano: Elementi caratterizzanti”.

Invitiamo tutti – Saveriani e Laici Saveriani – a studiarlo in modo approfondito e a farlo diventare uno strumento di animazione per rinforzare la comunione di entrambi. (Javier Peguero Pérez sx)

In August 2017, the XVII General Chapter, No. 72, entrusted the General Direction with the task of establishing a team for the Xaverian Laity, made up of confreres and lay people, with the purpose of promoting communion between the Xaverian Laity present in the various Xaverian Circumscriptions and the Congregation. This team was also entrusted with the task of drawing up a Vademecum setting out the terms and modalities of collaboration between the Xaverians and the Xaverian Laity. In its planning, the General Direction took up this orientation of the XVII GC and undertook to set up the team for the Xaverian Laity, entrusting it – as requested by the XVII GC – with the task of drawing up the Vademecum. The team was set up in October 2017 and met 13 times during the six-year period. It also maintained regular communication with the groups of Xaverian Laity, to whom it sent 8 letters and involved them in various ways in the development of the Vademecum.

In preparation for the XVIII General Chapter held in Bukavu, Congo, in July 2023, the team submitted the final draft of the Vademecum to the General Direction for presentation and study at the Chapter. The XVIII General Chapter accepted the Vademecum, approved it and, in accordance with the team's proposal, named it ‘The Xaverian Laity: Characterising Elements’. After the presentation by the Superior General and the words of the XVIII GC, this Chapter Document introduces the topic of the Xaverian Laity and then develops it in five parts: 1) Charism and Xaverianity; 2) Formation of Xaverian Laity; 3) Legal and Economic independence of the Xaverian Laity; 4) Organisation of the Xaverian Laity; and 5) Relationship between the Xaverian Laity and the other members of the Xaverian Charismatic Family. At the end of the Document, a brief conclusion follows.

After a long and demanding process of elaboration, the General Direction now presents to the entire Congregation and to all the Xaverian Laity the official edition – in Italian and English – of the document ‘Xaverian Laity: Characterising Elements’.
