In Italia vive una comunità cattolica di rito Siro-Malabarese abbastanza numerosa. Questa chiesa cattolica d’Oriente viene fondata da San Tommaso Apostolo in India meridionale (Kerala- India, in particolare sulle coste del Malabar) nel 52 d.C. I Siro-Malabaresi in Europa hanno un vescovo che risiede a Roma. In Romagna i cattolici Malabaresi si ritrovano nella nostra casa di San Pietro in Vincoli, sentendola come il centro per le loro celebrazioni liturgiche e la formazione umana e cristiana. Alcuni vengono regolarmente anche da lontano: Ferrara, Forlì, Faenza, Ravenna, Cesena e Rimini. Sono accompagnati pastoralmente da un sacerdote Siro-Malabarese residente a Bertinoro (Forlì). Il giorno dell’Immacolata hanno pregato a lungo nella  cappella della nostra comunità, con la celebrazione dell’Eucaristia, l’Adorazione eucaristica e la recita del Rosario. Saranno con noi anche la notte di Natale per la celebrazione eucaristica.

È molto incoraggiante essere testimoni della partecipazione entusiasta e coinvolgente dei loro giovani. Manifestano un forte spirito missionario (il 67% dei missionari indiani appartiene a questa Chiesa, che vanta oltre tre milioni e mezzo di fedeli).

In questi giorni i giovani stanno preparando un concorso a livello nazionale di canti natalizi eseguiti in malayalâm, la lingua dei Siro-Malabaresi. Una commissione deciderà chi sarà il vincitore. Il gruppo giovanile in Romagna ha registrato i propri canti nella cappella della nostra comunità: la stella che porta a Betlemme sorge dall’oriente. (Pietro Rinaldi sx)

A rather numerous Catholic community of Syro-Malabar rite lives in Italy. This Catholic Church of the Orient was founded by St Thomas the Apostle in 52 A.D, in Southern India (Kerala, especially along the costs of Malabar). The Syro-Malabar Christians in Europe have a bishop who resides in Rome. In the Romagna Region, the Syro-Malabar Christians meet in our house of San Pietro in Vincoli, which they feel as the centre for their liturgical celebrations and human and Christian formation. Some come regularly, even if they live far away in places like Ferrara, Forlì, Faenza, Ravenna, Cesena and Rimini. They are assisted by a Syro-Malabar priest that resides in Bertinoro (Forlì). On the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, they prayed for quite a long time in our community chapel: celebrated Mass, had Eucharistic Adoration and prayed the rosary. They are going to be with us also on Christmas eve at the Mass.

To witness their young people’s enthusiastic and engaging participation is very encouraging. They manifest a strong missionary spirit (67% of Indian missionaries belong to this Church, that boasts more than three and half million faithful).

In these days, the youth are preparing to participate in a national competition of Christmas carols that will be sung in Malayalâm, the language of the Syro-Malabar. A panel of judges will decide the winners. The youth team in Romagna has recorded their songs in our community chapel: the star leading to Bethlehem rises in the Orient. (Pietro Rinaldi s.x.)
