“Sollevate, porte, i vostri frontali, alzatevi, porte antiche, ed entri il re della gloria!” Questo versetto del Salmo 23,7 ha suscitato molta emozione nei fedeli giunti da tutto il Burundi per partecipare all'inaugurazione del Centre Spirituel Xavérien - situato a Rubimbi, parrocchia di Mumuri, Arcidiocesi di Gitega – presieduta dell'arcivescovo emerito di Gitega, Simon Ntamwana. 

La gioia è stata immensa, sia tra i Saveriani che nell'intera comunità ecclesiale di Gitega, che ha visto il ritorno dei Missionari Saveriani, arrivati nella diocesi circa 50 anni fa e ripartiti poco dopo. La data del 23 ottobre 2024 rimarrà segnata da questo evento, sia a livello della circoscrizione Saveriana del Burundi, che è riuscita a portare a termine quest'opera, considerata anche il frutto del “60° anniversario” della presenza dei Missionari Saveriani in Burundi, celebrato proprio quest'anno, sia a livello della Chiesa locale.

Nella sua riflessione, Mons. Simon Ntamwana ha ringraziato la famiglia Saveriana, che ha conosciuto fin dal suo primo anno di ministero presbiterale, “51 anni fa”, ha puntualizzato.

Rivolgendosi poi direttamente a ciascuno di noi, ci ha esortati:

• ad amare la nostra vocazione missionaria perché è speciale. (sembra che fosse a conoscenza dei documenti del XVIII Capitolo generale);
• a fare qui ciò che sappiamo fare e costruire insieme l' “ekklesia” (“insegnateci a vivere come fratelli, qui in Burundi”) ha detto;
• ad annunciare Cristo “senza paura, tenendo sempre gli occhi fissi sui Saveriani martiri, perché alla fine è l'amore che vince sempre”.

Va notato anche che questo “Centro” ospita la fase iniziale della formazione Saveriana (Propedeutica). Per questo, il vescovo Simon Ntamwana ha invitato i giovani candidati ad imitare sia lo zelo missionario del patrono San Francesco Saverio sia la dedizione del fondatore San Guido Maria Conforti. “O gates, lift high your heads; grow higher, ancient doors. Let him enter, the king of glory!” This verse from Psalm 23 has deeply moved the faithful who came from all over Burundi to attend the inauguration of the Centre Spirituel Xavérien. The inauguration of the Centre, which is located in Rubimbi, parish of Mururi, Archdiocese of Gitega, was presided by the archbishop emeritus of Gitega, Simon Ntamwana.

Great was the joy of both the Xaverians and the entire ecclesial community of Gitega that was now witnessing the return of the Xaverian Missionaries (the Xaverians arrived in the diocese about 50 years ago, but left soon afterwards). October 23^rd, 2024, will be remembered for this inauguration by both the Xaverian Circumscription in Burundi – that was able to bring to completion this project marking the 60-year anniversary of Xaverian presence in the country –, and the local Church.

In his address, Msgr. Simon Ntamwana thanked the Xaverian family whom he met in his first year of priestly ministry – “51 years ago”, as he specified.

Then, speaking directly to each one of us, he urged us:

• to love our missionary vocation for its uniqueness (he appeared to know the documents of the XVIII General Chapter).
• to do here what we are good at doing and build together the Ekklesia (“teach us to live as brothers, here, in Burundi”, he said).
• to proclaim Christ “without fears, by keeping always our eyes fixed on the Xaverian martyrs, for in the end love always wins.”

It must be remembered that this Centre hosts the initial phase of Xaverian formation (Propaedeutics). This is why Bishop Simon Ntamwana invited our young candidates to imitate the missionary zeal of our patron St Francis Xavier and the great dedication of our founder St Guido Maria Conforti.
