In occasione del decimo anniversario della canonizzazione del Fondatore, la comunità del Prenoviziato/Postulato di Kilomoni ha riflettuto sulla figura di San Guido Maria Conforti a partire dalla Preghiera di canonizzazione e l’omelia di papa Benedetto XVI del 23 ottobre 2011. Ci siamo quindi interrogati: come può San Guido Maria Conforti continuare a parlarci oggi e parlare al nostro desiderio di seguire Cristo? Cosa si deve o non si deve fare? Come si deve essere o non essere affinché il carisma di Conforti e la nostra famiglia religiosa non finiscano con noi? Abbiamo anche continuato la novena in preparazione alla solennità di San Guido Maria Conforti. Il 5 novembre, abbiamo celebrato una Messa solenne e poi condiviso un piccolo “banchetto”.

Un nuovo inizio, per sua natura, è sempre entusiasmante ma è anche una sfida. Grazie a Dio, siamo giovani e possiamo affrontare le sfide in cui ci imbattiamo a Kilomoni, come le strutture e altre cose della casa che ancora necessitano di essere costruite o acquistate. Ci incoraggia la reazione positiva di alcuni sacerdoti locali e dei fedeli alla nostra presenza in questa diocesi di Uvira, luogo del martirio di alcuni nostri confratelli nel 1964.

Mentre continuiamo ad esplorare diverse forme ed aree di apostolato in cui poter impegnarci, alcuni postulanti hanno già iniziato a fare la catechesi in due diverse scuole secondarie, mentre altri sono coinvolti nella pastorale giovanile e nel gruppo di chierichetti. Abbiamo anche cominciato a far visita e ad animare la piccola comunità cristiana di Kahororo che è situata nella periferia di Kilomoni e della parrocchia. Che possa essere un buon inizio! On the occasion of the 10^th anniversary of the Founder’s canonization, the community of the Pre-novitiate/Postulancy of Kilomoni reflected on the figure of St. Guido Maria Conforti by taking as a starting point the Prayer for his canonization and the homily Pope Benedict XVI delivered on October 23^rd, 2011. We then asked ourselves: how can St. Guido Maria Conforti continue to speak to us today as we desire to follow Christ? What to do and not do? How should we be or not be to ensure that the charism of Conforti and our religious family will not end with us?  We continued the novena in preparation for the solemnity of St. Guido Maria Conforti. On November 5^th, we had a solemn mass and a small “banquet”.

New beginnings are both exciting and challenging by nature. Thanks God, we are young and can meet the challenges we’re encountering in Kilomoni, such as house facilities and other things that still need to be built or purchased. We feel encouraged by the positive feedback from some local priests and the faithful vis-à-vis our presence here. Apart from us, there is no other formation house in the diocese of Uvira, a place where some of our confreres were martyred in 1964.

While continuing to explore the different forms or areas of apostolate we can get involved in, some of the postulants have already begun teaching catechesis in two different secondary schools, others are involved in chapel youth ministry and with the group of Altar Servants. We have also begun visiting and animate the small Christian community of Kahororo which is in the outskirts of Kilomoni and of the parish. May it be a good start! (Valentin Shukuru Bihaira s.x.)
