È la seconda edizione della manifestazione pubblica in Italia. Ma in altri paesi del mondo i preti si fanno sentire in diversi modi. Sono già migliaia e sono esasperati dal silenzio di tante istituzioni su quello che succede in Palestina – ma anche in altre parti del mondo – dove popolazioni intere sono massacrate o deportate come fossero una merce o degli schiavi del XXI secolo. A Roma c’era una piccola rappresentanza di tutti questi preti che vorrebbero essere appunto la voce di tanti altri : dalla Spagna, dal Regno Unito e dall’Irlanda, dalla Francia, dalla Danimarca, dal Brasile, consacrati, missionari, diocesani, e anche vescovi e un cardinale. La mattinata – nella curia generale dei Gesuiti – è stata un tempo di riflessione e condivisione. Alcuni interventi in video, tra cui forte e chiaro quello del vescovo Broderick Soncuaco Pabillo, dalle Filippine, altri in presenza (Nicoletta Dentico di Kairos Palestina, molto competente e comunicativa). E anche delle condivisioni tra i partecipanti. Il pomeriggio, dopo un tempo di preghiera nella chiesa di Santo Spirito in Sassia, la processione orante si è snodata tra le strade della Capitale, dal Vaticano alle ambasciate della Palestina, del Libano, fino ad arrivare davanti alla sede della Leonardo S.p.A, gigante europeo della costruzione di armi. Davanti, un lenzuolo (sudario) con circa 300 nomi di bambini uccisi a Gaza. Una denuncia: spiccare mandati di arresto contro i costruttori e i mercanti di armi. Alcuni confratelli Saveriani da Parma e da Roma abbiamo partecipato; il padre generale ci ha raggiunto alla marcia del pomeriggio. (Armando Coletto sx)
ROME: DAY OF PROTEST BY PRIESTS AGAINST THE MASSACRE IN PALESTINE
This is the second edition of the public demonstration in Italy. But in other countries around the world, priests are making their voices heard in various ways. There are already thousands of them, and they are exasperated by the silence of so many institutions regarding what is happening in Palestine – but also in other parts of the world – where entire populations are being massacred or deported as if they were commodities or 21st-century slaves. In Rome, there was a small delegation representing all these priests who wish to be the voice of so many others: from Spain, the United Kingdom and Ireland, from France, Denmark and Brazil – including consecrated priests, missionaries, diocesan priests, as well as bishops and a cardinal. The morning – held at the Jesuit General Curia – was a time for reflection and sharing. There were a number of video messages, including a powerful and clear one from Bishop Broderick Soncuaco Pabillo of the Philippines, while others spoke in person (Nicoletta Dentico of Kairos Palestine, who was very knowledgeable and articulate in her speech). There were also exchanges amongst the participants. In the afternoon, following a time of prayer at the Church of Santo Spirito in Sassia, the prayerful march twisted and turned through the streets of the capital, from the Vatican to the embassies of Palestine and Lebanon, before arriving outside the headquarters of Leonardo S.p.A., a European arms manufacturing giant. At the front was a sheet (shroud) bearing the names of around 300 children killed in Gaza. A call to action: issue arrest warrants against arms manufacturers and dealers. Some Xaverian confreres from Parma and Rome took part; the Father General joined us for the afternoon march. (Armando Coletto, sx)
