Il Sinodo sulla Sinodalità, aperto il 10 ottobre 2021, sta concludendo la prima importante fase, la consultazione del popolo di Dio, alla quale seguiranno la fase celebrativa nell’ottobre 2023 e successivamente quella attuativa.

La consultazione, che non va confusa con un’indagine demoscopica, sta facendo emergere i bisogni profondi delle Chiese, le sfide e le difficoltà.

La Segreteria generale del Sinodo, guidata dal cardinale maltese Mario Grech, ha inaugurato un nuovo stile informativo. Nel febbraio di quest’anno un comunicato stampa ha informato sull’andamento di questa fase, mettendo in evidenza “paure e reticenze tra alcuni gruppi di fedeli e il clero”, la sfiducia tra i laici i quali “dubitano che il loro contributo venga realmente preso in considerazione” e indicando tra le sfide: la partecipazione dei giovani; il coinvolgimento di chi vive “ai margini delle istituzioni ecclesiali” e “il disorientamento di una parte del clero”.

Ora, il 28 aprile, si è aggiunto un incontro tra i membri delle quattro commissioni (teologica, metodologica, spiritualità e comunicazione) della Segreteria Generale del Sinodo e i vaticanisti per un approfondimento “off the record” sui lavori in corso e su cosa si debba intendere per Chiesa sinodale.

The Synod on Synodality, which began on October 10^th, 2021, is about to conclude its first important phase, that of consultation with God’s people. This phase will be followed by the celebration of the synodal assemblies in October 2023 and subsequently by the phase of implementations.

The consultation – not to be confused with an opinion poll – is bringing to the fore the deep needs of the Churches, as well as challenges and difficulties.

The General Secretariat of the Synod, led by the Maltese Cardinal Mario Grech, has initiated a new style of communication. In February 2022, a press release informed about the progress of this phase; it emphasised “fears and reticence … among some groups of the faithful and among the clergy,” and “mistrust among the laity who doubt that their contribution will really be taken into consideration”; it pointed out challenges: the participation of young people; involving those who live “on the margins of ecclesial institutions” and “the reluctance of some clergy”. Now, on April 28^th, an extra meeting involving the four commissions (theological, methodological, spirituality and communication) of the General Secretariat of the Synod and Vatican reporters has been called to deepen knowledge “off the record” of the work in progress and on how a synodal Church must be understood.
