Continua la catechesi di papa Francesco sulla passione per l’evangelizzazione. Mercoledì 24 maggio 2023, parlando della figura Sant’Andrea Kim Tae-gon, come testimone eloquente di zelo per l’annuncio del Vangelo, il papa afferma:

“… l’evangelizzazione della Corea è stata fatta dai laici. Sono stati i laici battezzati che hanno trasmesso la fede, non c’erano preti, perché non ne avevano: vennero più tardi; pertanto, la prima evangelizzazione l’hanno fatta i laici. Noi saremmo capaci di una cosa del genere? Pensiamoci: è una cosa interessante. E questo è uno dei primi sacerdoti, Sant’Andrea. La sua vita è stata e rimane una testimonianza eloquente di zelo per l’annuncio del Vangelo…Vale a dire il coraggio di rialzarsi quando si cade. Ma i santi cadono? Sì! Ma dai primi tempi: pensate a San Pietro: ha fatto un grande peccato, ma ha avuto forza nella misericordia di Dio e si è rialzato. E in Sant’Andrea noi vediamo questa forza: lui era caduto fisicamente ma ha avuto la forza di andare, andare, andare per portare il messaggio avanti. Per quanto la situazione possa essere difficile, anzi a volte sembri non lasciare spazio al messaggio evangelico, non dobbiamo demordere e non dobbiamo rinunciare a portare avanti ciò che è essenziale nella nostra vita cristiana, cioè l’evangelizzazione…”

Pope Francis’ catechesis on the passion for evangelization continues. On Wednesday, May 24^th, 2023, while describing the figure of Saint Andrea Kim Tae-gon as eloquent witness of zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel, the pope stated: “…The evangelisation of Korea was done by the laity! It was the baptized laity who transmitted the faith, there were no priests, because they had none; these would come later. Thus, the first evangelisation was done by the laity. Would we be capable of something like that? Let’s think about it: it’s interesting. And this is one of the first priests, St Andrew. His life was and remains an eloquent testimony of the proclamation of the Gospel, the zeal for this… namely, the courage to get back up when one falls. But do saints fall? Yes! Indeed, from the earliest times. Think of St Peter: he committed a great sin, eh? But he found strength in God's mercy and got up again. And in St Andrew we see this strength: he had fallen physically but he had the strength to go, go, go to carry the message forward. No matter how difficult the situation may be—and indeed, at times it may seem to leave no room for the Gospel message—we must not give up and we must not forsake pursuing what is essential in our Christian life: namely, evangelization.”
