L’Agenzia ONU per i Rifugiati (UNHCR) e l’Organizzazione internazionale per le migrazioni (OIM) esprimono la loro profonda preoccupazione per “l’incolumità e il benessere di centinaia di migranti, rifugiati e richiedenti asilo bloccati in condizioni disperate in Tunisia in seguito all’allontanamento verso aree remote e desolate a ridosso delle frontiere con la Libia e l’Algeria”. In una nota congiunta, i due organismi sottolineano che queste persone, tra cui donne incinte e minori, “sono bloccate nel deserto, esposti a temperature estreme e senza accesso a ripari, cibo o acqua”. Di qui l’appello ad “assicurare loro al più presto aiuti umanitari di vitale importanza”, perché salvare vite deve rappresentare la priorità, conformemente al diritto nazionale e internazionale.

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are deeply concerned for “the safety and well-being of hundreds of migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers in Tunisia, who remain stranded in dire conditions following their removal to remote and desolate areas near the country’s borders with Libya and Algeria.” In a joint statement, the two organisations underscore the fact that these people, among whom are pregnant women and minors, “are stuck in the desert, facing extreme heat, and without access to shelter, food or water.” Hence, the two organizations appeal for efforts to ensure rapid humanitarian aid, which is of vital importance, since saving lives must be considered the priority in accordance with national and international laws.
