Credo fermamente che lo Spirito Santo sia intervenuto in pienezza pentecostale negli anni ‘80: Pamplona e Costituzioni post-conciliari. Così come è stato presente nei momenti della fondazione della nostra famiglia Missionaria: dall’incontro/ascolto del Crocefisso alla risposta al card. Domenico Serafini.

La mia fede in questa presenza straordinaria dello Spirito continua ferma quando rileggo i testi del XVIII Capitolo Generale tenutosi a Bukavu, RDC. Qui finalmente si dice chiaramente e ripetutamente che siamo portatori di un carisma e si riafferma ciò che il Concilio Vaticano II aveva ripetuto in vari modi e che la l’Esortazione Apostolica di San Giovanni Paolo II, Redemptionis Donum (1984), proprio parlando dell’invio al mondo per ammaestrare tutte le nazioni, sintetizza ricordando l’impegno dei consacrati:

È difficile descrivere, anzi persino elencare, in quanti modi diversi le persone consacrate realizzino, mediante l'apostolato, il loro amore verso la Chiesa. Esso è sempre nato da quel dono particolare dei vostri Fondatori, che, ricevuto da Dio e approvato dalla Chiesa, è divenuto un carisma per l'intera comunità.

Se ne potrà discutere, ed è bene farlo, ma io sintetizzerei la storia della nostra famiglia in tre momenti. Il tempo della fondazione: a partire dal Crocefisso, Guido riceve dallo Spirito un “dono particolare”, fino a quando dice che le cose devono rimanere “quo antea” e rimangono fino all’approvazione delle Costituzioni, per intervento di un Papa. Un secondo momento: la descrizione del “dono particolare” in Pamplona e nelle costituzioni dell’83 e, finalmente la presa di coscienza di dovere offrire questo “dono particolare” alla Chiesa… (Alfiero Ceresoli sx)

I firmly believe that in the 1980s the Holy Spirit intervened – as in a full Pentecost – in Pamplona and in the drafting of the post-Council Constitutions. Similarly, the Holy Spirit was present at every stage of the founding of our Missionary family: from Conforti’s encounter with and listening to the Crucifix to his reply to Card. Domenico Serafini.

My faith in this extraordinary presence of the Spirit remains firm also when I read again the texts of the 18^th General Chapter held in Bukavu, DRC. That General Chapter has finally stated, in a clear manner and repeatedly, that we carry a charism. The Chapter has then reaffirmed what the Second Vatican Council had reiterated in various ways and what St John Paul II – in addressing, in his Apostolic Exhortation Redemptionis Donum (1984), the mandate to go into all the world to make disciples of all nations – had summarised regarding the role of consecrated persons:

It is difficult to describe, or even to list, the many different ways in which consecrated persons fulfill their love for the Church through the apostolate. This apostolate is always born from that particular gift of your founders, which, received from God and approved by the Church, has become a charism for the whole community.

Although it is not a definitive periodization – and a discussion on this point is more than welcome –, I would divide the history of our family in three moments. The period of its founding: beginning with the Crucifix, from which Guido receives from the Spirit a “particular gift”, until he decides that his project must remain “quo antea” (how things were before), and so it remained until the approval of the Constitutions through the special intervention of a Pope. Secondly, the description of the “particular gift” made [by a conference] in Pamplona and [when drafting] the new Constitutions in 1983, and, eventually, the rise of a new awareness [among Xaverians] of their responsibility to share this “particular gift” with the Church….
