La circoscrizione del Camerun sta preparandosi a vivere un momento importante della sua storia di missione, trattasi della celebrazione del XII capitolo Regionale che si svolgerà nel prossimo mese di gennaio 2026. In questa settimana (1-5 dicembre 2025), i confratelli presenti nella circoscrizione saveriana del Camerun si sono recati nella città di Douala per vivere insieme, nello stesso spirito di fede, di fraternità e di carità, l’assemblea “pre capitolare”. Sono stati dei giorni profumati di allegria e di serenità, dove l’ascolto tra le condivisioni delle diverse comunità affermava quanto mai la bellezza della fraternità. È stato anche un tempo di intensi lavori dove si sono formate delle commissioni di lavoro per valorizzare e conservare le acquisizioni del cammino percorso fino ad oggi, riflettere sulle sfide che ci si presentano e vedere in quale misura vivere la novità nella fedeltà al carisma saveriano nel contesto odierno che è il nostro.

Inoltre, la celebrazione della festa di San Francesco Saverio è stata preceduta da un Tridum di preghiera. Al mattino, abbiamo reso omaggio ai nostri confratelli deceduti e sepolti nel recinto della comunità Centro Xavier a Douala, con una processione di preghiera e di testimonianza della loro vita. Nel pomeriggio dello stesso giorno, abbiamo meditato sulla vita del santo Patrono e ascoltato la conferenza prevista per l’occasione.  Alla sera, durante la celebrazione solenne di san Francesco Saverio con la comunità cristiana, i confratelli Kizito Kushinganine Milenge, Denis Bacikuderhe Imani e Gratien Rivuzimana hanno consacrato definitivamente la loro vita emettendo i voti perpetui. Questo momento di allegria è stato coronato con un momento di convivialità con il popolo di Dio.

Siamo grati col Signore di porter celebrare questo evento così importante con i pionieri della missione in Camerun. È una fortuna averli ancora con noi. Sentiamo il dovere di fedeltà all’eredità così grande della missione che sta al di là delle nostre forze, ma che ci è stato consegnata come un dono dal Signore. (Joseph Ghomsi Deffo sx)

The Circumscription of Cameroon is preparing for an important moment in its missionary history: the celebration of the 12^th Regional Chapter that will take place in January 2026. Last week (December 1^st-5^th, 2025), the confreres present in the Xaverian circumscription of Cameroon travelled to the city of Douala, to live together, in the same spirit of faith, fraternity, and charity, the “pre-chapter” assembly. These have been joyful days, during which listening to the various communities’ sharing reinforced our fraternity. They have also been days of intense work for the formation of commissions whose purpose is to value and preserve what has been achieved so far in our common journey, to reflect on the new challenges we are meeting and discern how to face them by remaining faithful to our Xaverian Charism in our specific milieu.

The celebration of the solemnity of St Francis Xavier was preceded by a Triduum. In the morning of the solemnity, we paid homage to our departed brothers who are buried in the compound of the Xavier Centre in Douala with a procession in prayer and witness to their life. In the afternoon, we took the chance to meditate on the life of our Patron through a speech that was scheduled for the occasion. In the evening, during the solemn celebration of the feast of St Francis Xavier with the Christian community, our confreres Kizito Kushinganine Milenge, Denis Bacikuderhe Imani and Gratien Rivuzimana made their perpetual vows. This moment of happiness was crowned by a meal with the people of God.

We are grateful to the Lord for the opportunity to celebrate this important event with the pioneers of the mission in Cameroon. We are truly lucky we still have them among us. We are aware that we must be faithful to the great legacy of the mission and that mission is always beyond our strengths, but God has entrusted it to us as a gift. (Joseph Ghomsi Deffo s.x.)
