Da dove veniamo
"Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getta il seme nella terra; dorma o vegli, di notte o di giorno, il seme germoglia e cresce; come, egli stesso non lo sa" (Mc 4,26-27).
“Dio non poteva essere più buono con noi", questa espressione di San Guido Maria Conforti riassume assai bene la nostra esperienza missionaria in Giappone. La storia della missione saveriana in Giappone ha conosciuto molte epoche durante le quali la missione si è sviluppata in un'ampia varietà di settori. Una risposta che la riassuma non rende giustizia né ai singoli confratelli che hanno vissuto e lavorato in questo paese (101 missionari), né alla Regione nel suo complesso.
Siamo certi che ciascuno di noi fa del suo meglio per la missione, anche se le teologie di riferimento e i percorsi formativi di ciascuno sono molto diversi. Gli oltre 70 anni di storia che ci legano a questa nazione ci hanno visto impegnati in diversi campi: P. Di Napoli, P. Picci, P. Iwamoto, P. Carlesso, pur con un Giapponese limitato, sono stati fondatori di missioni e asili, amici di tutti e appassionati della missione. P. Perlini ha lavorato con i lebbrosi. I pp. Tartari e Sottocornola Franco sono stati grandi promotori della liturgia in Giapponese. P. Manni, P. Danieli, P. Kunihara, P. Yang, P. Carlesso e P. Pasini hanno dedicato le loro energie al lavoro negli asili. P. Barbini ha dato assistenza ai e ai senza dimora. P. Carlesso, Ceruti e P. Denny hanno prodotto fotografie, video e CD come strumenti per l’attività missionaria. I pp. Mollaretti e Piatti hanno lavorato nel campo artistico, annunciando il Vangelo attraverso le loro creazioni.

Where we come from
“The kingdom of God is like a man sowing seed in the earth; sleep or wake, night or day, the seed sprouts and grows; how, he himself does not know” (Mark 4:26-27).
“God could not have been more generous to us,” this expression of St. Guido Maria Conforti sums up our missionary experience in Japan very well. The history of the Xaverian mission in Japan has known many periods during which mission has developed in a wide variety of areas. A response summarizing it with the brevity required by this report does not do justice to either the individual confreres who have lived and worked in this country (101 missionaries) or to the Region as a whole.
We are confident that each of us is doing his best for the mission, even though the reference theologies and formation paths of each are very different. The more than 70 years of history that binds us to this nation have seen us engaged in different fields: Fr. Di Napoli, Fr. Picci, Fr. Iwamoto, Fr. Carlesso, though with limited knowledge of Japanese, have been founders of missions and kindergartens, friends of all and passionate about mission. Fr. Perlini workedwith people suffering from leprosy. Fr. Tartari and Fr. Sottocornola Franco were great promoters of the liturgy in Japanese. Fr. Manni, Fr. Danieli, Fr. Kunihara, Fr. Yang, Fr. Carlesso and Fr. Pasini devoted their energies to work in kindergartens. Fr. Barbini gave assistance to poor and the homeless. Fr. Carlesso, Ceruti and Fr. Denny produced photographs, videos and CDs as tools for missionary work. Fr. Mollaretti and Piatti worked in the artistic field, proclaiming the Gospel through their creations.
