News from The Conforti Institute: over the past two weeks we have helped organise two national conferences for schools. On Wednesday September 27^th, together with the ideas network (http://www.ideas-forum.org.uk/), we held a conference on The United Nations Global Goals. There was over 10 secondary schools (with between 20- 30 pupils per school) from different parts of Scotland participating in the day. We had guest speakers from the government’s Department of International Development. The school left with a better understanding of development and how aid is used and generated as well as plans for each school to develop on the Global Goals.

The second event, together with the Scottish Bishop’s Interfaith Committee, was in preparation for Interfaith Week (November 12^th -19^th) in St. Roch’s Secondary School, Glasgow. The majority of catholic Secondary schools were present to hear Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald, former President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, reflect on the impact of “Nostra Aetate.” The pupils and staff then had an opportunity to review material for the week and plan how to use it! This is the 4^th time we have organised this conference and it grows from strength to strength and the schools value the time to prepare and organise this important part of the school year.

Notizie dal Conforti Institute: durante le ultime due settimane abbiamo collaborato alla preparazione di due conferenze nazionali per le scuole. Mercoledì 27 settembre, insieme al gruppo “ideas-forum” (http://www.ideas-forum.org.uk/), abbiamo tenuto una conferenza su: Obbiettivi Globali delle Nazioni Unite. Hanno partecipato 10 scuole secondarie (ciascuna con 20-30 studenti) provenienti da diverse parti della Scozia. I relatori erano membri del Ministero dello Sviluppo Internazionale. La scuola adesso ha una migliore comprensione dello sviluppo e di come gli aiuti vengono promossi e usati, e così pure dei piani di ciascuna scuola per crescere riguardo agli Obbiettivi Globali.

Il secondo evento, organizzato insieme all’ “Interfaith Committee” dei Vescovi della Scozia, in vista della Settimana del Dialogo tra Fedi (12-19 novembre), si è svolto a Glasgow nella St. Roch’s Secondary School. Ha partecipato la maggioranze delle scuole secondarie, per ascoltare le riflessioni dell’Arcivescovo Mons. Michael Fitzerald, ex presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per il Dialogo Interreligioso, sull’impatto della “Nostra Aetate”. Gli studenti, come pure il personale della scuola, hanno avuto in’opportunità per esaminare il materiale della settimana, e decidere come usarlo! Questa è la quarta volta che abbiamo organizzato questa conferenza, che va raccogliendo sempre più consensi, e le scuole apprezzano il tempo speso nella preparazione e organizzazione di questa parte importante dell’anno scolastico.
