Nella serata di giovedì 5 gennaio 2023, nella Casa de Retiro Preciosino a Ananindeua, Belém – PA, è iniziato il XVI Capitolo Regionale. Subito dopo cena, p. Fernando García Rodríguez ci ha condiviso alcune informazioni sulla nostra Famiglia missionaria. Ci ha ricordato come il numero e l’invecchiamento dei confratelli, insieme ad altre situazioni, ci deve portare a riflettere in modo intelligente sulla direzione che vogliamo prendere e sulle modalità delle nostre scelte. Ci ha invitati a chiederci come missionari quale missione, quali ambiti, quali attività vogliamo previlegiare.  Ha, inoltre, sottolineato l’importanza di riflettere insieme sulle conclusioni del Sinodo per la Regione Panamazzonica (“Querida Amazzonia”, 2020) e il Documento del 50° anniversario dell’Incontro di Santarém (“Santarém 50 anni: gratitudine e profezia”, 2022). Ci ha ricordato l’urgenza - per la nostra Famiglia missionaria - di essere consapevoli del nuovo volto interculturale  e per questo l’importanza di saper accogliere e sostenere i confratelli più giovani che arrivano alla nostra circoscrizione. Riferendosi, poi, alla celebrazione del Giubileo della Lettera Testamento, ci ha detto che essa è stata un’occasione per riscoprire la nostra identità nella Chiesa. Infine, ha presentato il lavoro che sta realizzando il Comitato Preparatorio per il XVIII Capitolo Generale, sottolineando i vari contributi delle circoscrizioni e dei singoli confratelli puntualmente pubblicati nel sito della Direzione Generale.  Ci ha incoraggiati a far conoscere ai confratelli, la bellezza e le caratteristiche missionarie di questa regione.  

Nella mattinata di venerdì 6 gennaio 2023 sono previsti due momenti: una breve presentazione dell’analisi del contesto sociale in Brasile e un tempo di spiritualità. Il pomeriggio dello stesso giorno, invece, sarà dedicato alla condivisione personale e comunitaria alla luce di due domande: “come giungo a questo capitolo? Qual è la situazione in cui vivo e porto avanti la missione affidatami? (Pedro Saúl Ruíz Álvarez sx)

On Thursday evening, January 5^th, 2023, the XVI Regional Chapter began at the Casa de Retiro Preciosino in Ananindeua, Belém – PA. Right after supper, Fr. Fernando García Rodríguez shared with us some pieces of information about our missionary Family. He reminded us of the fact that the decreasing number and aging of confreres, along with other circumstances, must make us reflect intelligently on which way we want to go and on the modalities of our choices. He invited us to ask ourselves, as missionaries, which mission, which fields, which activities we want to prioritize. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance to reflect together on the conclusions drawn by the Synod for the for the Pan-Amazon region (Querida Amazzonia, 2020) and the Document for the 50^th Anniversary of the Santarém Meeting (Santarém document Fifty Years. Gratitude & Prophesy, 2022). He reminded us of the urgent need for our missionary Family to be aware of its new intercultural identity. This is why it is important to learn to welcome and support the youngest confreres that come in our circumscription. With reference to Jubilee celebration for the Testament Letter, he told us that it has been a chance to rediscover our identity in the Church. Finally, he presented the work being carried out by the Preparatory Committee of the XVIII General Chapter and, in particular, the various contributions made by circumscriptions and individual confreres, contributions that are regularly posted on the website of the General Direction. He encouraged us to introduce the beauty and missionary peculiarities of this region to the confreres. 

Two moments have been scheduled for the morning of Friday, January 6^th, 2023: a brief presentation of the analysis of the Brazilian social context and a time of spirituality. The afternoon of the same day will be devoted to personal and community sharing based on two questions: “How am I coming to this chapter? In which situation am I living and carrying out the mission entrusted to me?” (Pedro Saúl Ruíz Álvarez sx)
