«Possa la forza del Risorto dare nuove energie a ciascuno dovunque sia impegnato nella nostra missione. Siamo fieri di condividere e di comunicare il carisma ad Gentes del Conforti. Possa la vita comunitaria essere la vera sorgente di vitalità nel nostro testimoniare il Vangelo; non stanchiamoci di apprezzarci, di incoraggiarci, di perdonarci; continuiamo a lavorare insieme, privilegiamo la collaborazione a tutti i livelli ». Queste sono tra le parole con cui il P. Félix Kuate Bougieka, il nostro Regionale, ha aperto i lavori della nostra prima assemblea - dopo capitolo regionale - tenutosi a Garoua nel mese di gennaio anno corrente. Nella sua parola di esordio - intitolata  il grande regalo di essere missionario - riprendendo le parole di auguri del Superiore Generale, il p. Regionale ci ha rivolto i saluti e gli auguri di una buona assemblea del P. Generale. Questa tradizionale assemblea nell’Ottava Pasquale è organizzata nella zona Camerun della Regione. Martedì sera, tutti i confratelli del Camerun erano già presenti nella comunità di Filosofia, dove si è tenuta l’assemblea. La stessa sera, nel vespro, il p. Regionale ha rivolto gli auguri di un buon arrivo a tutti. Abbiamo fatto due giorni intensi di lavoro seguendo l’ordine del giorno preparatoci dal Consiglio regionale. Il fulcro del lavoro consisteva nel vedere come mettere in pratica le risoluzioni prese nell’ultimo capitolo regionale. Prima di entrare in pieno lavoro, abbiamo accolto la suora Responsabile della sezione Africa centrale dell’EMI per parlarci più chiaramente sulla fondatezza di avere aderito alla loro mutua sanitaria. In seguito, sono venuti a salutarci alcuni del GAMIX cioè gli amici dei Missionari Saveriani. Ci hanno parlato dei loro incontri mensili di formazione missionaria e delle loro attività di cui la prossima è di mandare un’offerta alla nuova missione del Marocco. Poi, per un lavoro proficuo, sono state composte quattro commissioni che hanno lavorato in modo incrociato tutto il pomeriggio del mercoledì seguendo quattro aree di vita missionaria: animazione missionaria e vocazionale e mass-media; parrocchie, laicato e strategie missionarie; la formazione di base e permanente ed in fine l’economia e l’autosostentamento. Giovedì mattina e il primo pomeriggio sono stati consacrati a condividere i lavori di gruppo. Abbiamo concluso non senza aver avuto uno scambio sulle attività in preparazione alla celebrazione dei quarant’anni di presenza saveriana in Camerun-Ciad. Aldilà dei lavori fatti, l’assemblea è stata un bel e gioioso momento di celebrazione insieme della Pasqua ma anche di fraternità. “May the strength of the Risen One bring new energies to each one of you wherever he is carrying out the mission entrusted to us. We are proud to share and communicate Conforti’s ad Gentes charism. May community life be the source of vitality in our witness to the Gospel. Let us never tire of valuing, encouraging, and forgiving each other. Let us continue working together; let us give priority to collaboration at all levels.” These are some of the words used by Fr. Félix, our Regional, to open the works of our first assembly since the regional chapter which took place in Garoua in January. In his opening address, titled The Great Gift of Being a Missionary, which quotes the Superior General’s message, the Regional transmitted the General Superior’s greetings and best wishes to the assembly. This traditional assembly of the Octave of Easter is organized by the Cameroonian area of the Region. On Tuesday evening, all confreres in Cameroon had already arrived at the house of the Philosophy Students, where the assembly took place. The same evening, during Vespers, the Regional Father welcomed everyone. We had two very intense working days that followed the agenda prepared by the Regional Council. Focal point of the work was the effort to find ways to implement the resolutions adopted in the last regional chapter. Before undertaking the main work, we gave time to a Sister in charge of the Central-African section of EMI who spoke about the advantages deriving from our participation in their health insurance. Later, some people from GAMIX, i.e., the friends of the Xaverian missionaries, paid us a visit. They talked about their monthly meetings of missionary formation and their activities, among which the next one is going to be the sending of an offering to our new mission in Morocco. Then, in order to work effectively, we divided into four commissions that worked “in carrefour” for the entire afternoon of Wednesday. The commissions reflected four areas of missionary life: mission awareness and vocation ministry and mass-media; parish work, laity, and missionary strategies; initial and on-going formation; and, finally, economy and self-support. Thursday morning and early afternoon were dedicated to the commissions’ reports. In the final part of the assembly, we also discussed the activities in store for the celebration of the forty-year Xaverian presence in Cameroon-Chad. Apart from the assembly’s business, it has been a beautiful and joyful moment of Easter celebration and fraternity.
