L’esperienza di servizio nella formazione, l’impegno nella pastorale in lingua Swahili e in lingua Francese a Bujumbura, l’insegnamento di Storia della Filosofia africana e antropologia culturale a Bukavu, mi portano a riflettere sulla mia vita consacrata, come missionario ad gentes. Sono sempre più convinto che l’impatto ricevuto a Baraka, nella Repubblica democratica del Congo - dove sono arrivato nel gennaio del 1967 - dopo il martirio dei tre missionari Saveriani (Carrara Luigi, Didonè Giovanni, Faccin Vittorio e di un abate della diocesi di Uvira Joubert Athanase, il 28 novembre 1964) ha giocato un ruolo fondamentale nella mia vocazione alla vita consacrata. Quando ho incontrato il confratello Saveriano Palmiro Cima a Baraka - dopo il martirio dei suoi confratelli - mi sono sentito chiamato a diventare un costruttore di pace, un evangelizzatore, un cercatore di giustizia e riconciliazione piuttosto di spendere la mia vita in cerca di denaro e di prestigio personale. Come missionario Saveriano, sento un forte desidero di rendere i giovani consapevoli del totale rispetto per la vita umana, optando per una visione cristiana della vita, cercando l'unità, la riconciliazione, l'amicizia, l’intesa tra i gruppi etnici e dare sempre il primo posto a Dio. Nella parrocchia di San Guido Maria Conforti a Kamenge, sono rimasto profondamente toccato e vorrei dire anche traumatizzato dall'assassinio delle sorelle Saveriane, le Missionarie di Maria (Olga Raschietti, Bernadette Boggian e Lucia Pulici). Come vice-postulatore della causa di beatificazione di Michel Kayoya, P. Ottorino Maule, P. Aldo Marchiol, Catina Gubert e dei quaranta giovani Seminaristi, trovo un costante richiamo alla bellezza e verità di “amare”, come ci ricorda la Lettera Testamento, la povertà, l’obbedienza e la castità per l’annuncio del Vangelo. The experience of service in the formation of Xaverian Candidates in Burundi, the commitment in the pastoral in Swahili and French in Bujumbura, the teaching of history of the African philosophy and cultural anthropology in Bukavu bring me to reflect on my consecrated life as a missionary ad gentes. I am evermore convinced of the impact I received in Baraka, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where I arrived in January 1967, after the martyrdom of the three Xaverian Missionaries (Luigi Carrara, Giovanni Didonè, Vittorio Faccin and an abbot of the Uvira Diocese, Athanase Joubert, on November 28, 1964) played a fundamental role in my vocation to consecrated life. When I encountered my Xaverian confrere Palmiro Cima at Baraka –after his Confreres’ martyrdom- I felt the call to become a builder of peace, an evangelizer, a searcher of justice and reconciliation rather than spend my life looking for money and personal prestige. As a Xaverian Missionary I feel a strong desire to make the young people more aware of the total respect for human life, opting for a Christian vision of life, seeking unity, reconciliation, friendship and understanding between ethnic groups, and giving God always the first place. In the parish St. Guido Maria Conforti at Kamenge, I was deeply moved and I would say also traumatized by the assassination of the Xaverian Sisters of Mary (Olga Raschietti, Bernardetta Boggian e Lucia Pulici.) As a Vice-Postulator of the cause of beatification of Michael Kanoya, P. Ottorino Maule, P. Aldo Marchiol, Catina Gubert, and the 40 young seminarians, I find a constant call to the beauty and truth to “love” poverty, chastity, and obedience for the proclamation of the Gospel, as the Testament Letter reminds us.
