Carissimi Missionari Saveriani (Giornalino, ndr)
I ricordi. A Vittorio Faccin diedi lezioni (?) di italiano e matematica a Desio in preparazione agli esami di Terza Media. E Luigi Carrara! Eravamo compagni di classe. Eravamo abbastanza affiatati. Rimase mortificato. Finii all'ospedale in valle: curato, bendato e via a Parma, e poi, un sorriso.
Scusate i ricordi! Rimango aggiornato con "Missionari Saveriani".
Vi saluto caramente e... "coraggio!", perché non vi è facile. Ciao. Un forte saluto a tutti. (Tommaso Bettati, numero di professione religiosa 0590, classe 1936, già missionario in Brasile. Uscito nel 1982)

FORMER XAVERIANS TALK TO US: “I keep abreast of the latest news through Missionari Saveriani”
Dear Missionari Saveriani, (Xaverian periodical, ed.)
I received with much pleasure the letter of greetings for Christmas 2024. I am responding now with some delay to extend my good wishes for the year that is already halfway over. Nowadays, to keep alive as you do is not easy, and I follow with interest and affection your various “enterprises” around the world. I still have friends in various places, with whom I shared different periods of life. Many are my memories. In Desio, I taught Vittorio Faccin Italian and Mathematics in preparation for the middle-school third year examinations. There is then Luigi Carrara! We were classmates; in fact, we were quite close-knit! We used to meet at the fourth floor of the Theologate in Parma to discuss about school topics. He loved playing soccer and was a tough defender. Talking of soccer, I was left with an indelible memory of a ball that, one day after lunch, in the mountain, he shot with his right foot: it hit me in the right eye. He was mortified. I ended up in the hospital in the valley: treated, bandaged and off to Parma, and then a smile. During our ordination to the priesthood, as the litany of the saints were sung, we were prostrated, side by side – I was the first on the left, almost off the mat. “Are you cold?”, asked me Luigi. “Let me move a little inside, then you do the same.” Another memory is that while we were theology students I often called him “Cardinal Carafa” and, as always, he would smile. Even today I keep calling him “My Carafa!” Similarly, I have small and luminous memories of others that are now in the list of those who already migrated to heaven eternal. I thank them for their being with us.
From this place where I live it is always easy for me to go to Cornale, Fr. Luigi Carrara’s hometown. There, in the place of his childhood, I can have a chat [with him]. Please, forgive my many memories. I keep abreast of the latest news through Missionari Saveriani.
I greet you dearly. “Hang in there!” because life is not easy for you. Ciao. Best greetings to all.
