Carissimi confratelli, il prossimo venerdì, 5 novembre, celebreremo insieme la festa del nostro padre fondatore, san Guido M. Conforti. Dalla Sierra Leone, dove mi trovo in questo momento, vorrei inviare ad ognuno di voi i più fraterni e cordiali auguri di una buona celebrazione vissuta nella memoria e nel ringraziamento per il grande dono del carisma saveriano, ricevuto e accolto come la chiamata personale del Signore a ciascuno di noi.

Facciamo memoria di san Guido M. Conforti per ricordare quella maniera di vivere nella semplicità e nella verità di chi si sente che cammina alla presenza del Dio, rivelato in Gesù Cristo. E questa testimonianza di vita è diventata modello di santità per l’intero popolo di Dio quel 23 ottobre 2011, quando la Chiesa l’ha proclamato ufficialmente santo.

Inviando gli auguri per questo giorno vorrei ricordare il voto che Mons. Conforti ha lasciato a noi, suoi figli, e che lui ha voluto che lo considerassimo come il testamento del padre: 

«il voto che la caratteristica che dovrà distinguere i membri presenti e futuri della pia nostra Società sia sempre la risultante di questi coefficienti: spirito di viva fede che ci faccia veder Dio, cercar Dio, amar Dio in tutto acuendo in noi il desiderio di propagare ovunque il suo Regno; spirito di obbedienza pronta, generosa, costante in tutto e ad ogni costo per riportare le vittorie da Dio promesse all’uomo obbediente; spirito di amore intenso per la nostra Religiosa Famiglia, che dobbiamo considerare qual madre e carità a tutta prova pei membri che la compongono» (LT 10).

Dear Confreres, next Friday, November 5th, we will celebrate together the feast of our father founder, St Guido M. Conforti. From Sierra Leone, where I am in this moment, I would like to send each one of you my most fraternal and heartfelt wishes for a good celebration. May this celebration be a moment of memory and thanksgiving for the great gift of the Xaverian charism which we receive and welcome as a personal calling of the Lord to each one of us.

Let us cherish the memory of St Guido M. Conforti so as to remember that way of living in simplicity and truth which typifies, he who walks at the presence of the God revealed in Jesus Christ. Such a life witness has become a model of holiness for the entire people of God on October 23rd, 2011, when the Church officially declared him a saint.

As I send you my wishes for this day, I would like to recall the wish that Mons. Conforti left us, his sons, and that he wanted us to accept as the father’s last will:

that the distinguishing characteristic of the present and future members of the society be the result of the following components: a spirit of living faith which enables us to see God, seek God, love God in all things, intensifying our desire to spread his kingdom everywhere; a spirit of prompt and ready obedience in everything, no matter how costly, in order to achieve the victories promised by God to those who are obedient; a spirit of intense love for our religious family, that we must look upon as a mother, and a spirit of intense love for all the members of our Society.  (TL 10)
