Parrocchie, famiglie, associazioni, scuole, e anche strutture pubbliche nella città di Lisbona e nelle diocesi limitrofe stanno ospitando migliaia di giovani pellegrini convenuti in Portogallo per le Giornate Mondiali della Gioventù (1-6 agosto 2023).

Papa Francesco, riflettendo sul tema di quest’anno, scrive: “Maria, dopo l’Annunciazione, avrebbe potuto concentrarsi su se stessa, sui timori dovuti alla sua nuova condizione, invece, si fida totalmente dell’Annuncio. Pensa piuttosto ad Elisabetta. Lo sconvolgente annuncio dell’Angelo, non la paralizza, perché dentro di lei c’è Gesù. Sperimentare la presenza di Cristo risorto nella propria vita, incontrarlo “vivo” è un’esplosione di luce, di gioia. La fa mettere in movimento…in fretta…”

Le Giornate si sono aperte con una S. Messa presieduta dal patriarca di Lisbona, il Card. Manuel Clemente. Papa Francesco è arrivato mercoledì 2 agosto, giorno in cui nei diversi luoghi di incontro dei giovani sono iniziate le catechesi sul tema delle Giornate. Alla sera abbiamo vissuto un momento molto bello di celebrazione del sacramento della Riconciliazione. Altri appuntamenti chiave delle Giornate saranno la Via Crucis di venerdì, la Veglia di sabato e la Messa di Invio che Papa Francesco presiederà domenica mattina.

Alcuni nostri confratelli provenienti da Parigi, Madrid, Roma e altri luoghi stanno partecipando insieme a gruppi di giovani impegnati nella formazione e nelle attività promosse dai Saveriani.

Queste Giornate sono un’esperienza di incontro e condivisione della fede, di scambio culturale, ma soprattutto un invito ad alzarsi e andare in fretta con Maria ad annunciare la vicinanza di Dio agli uomini. (Lisbona, 02 agosto 2023, Robert Kowa Sado sx)

Parishes, families, associations, schools and even public institutions in the city of Lisbon and the neighbouring dioceses are hosting thousands of young pilgrims arrived in Portugal for World Youth Days (August 1^st-6^th, 2023).

Pope Francis ponders over the theme of this year and writes: “After the Annunciation, Mary could have focused on herself and her own worries and fears about her new condition. Instead, she entrusted herself completely to God. Her thoughts turned to Elizabeth. She did not remained paralysed at the astonishing message of the Angel, for within her was Jesus. To experience the presence of the risen Christ in our own lives, to encounter him “alive”, is the greatest spiritual joy, an explosion of light. Mary sets out immediately,… with haste…”

The Days opened with a Mass presided over by the Patriarch of Lisbon, Card. Manuel Clemente. Pope Francis arrived on Wednesday, August 2^nd. On the same day, catecheses on the theme of the Days began in the meeting points of the young people. In the evening, we experienced a very beautiful moment with the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Other key appointments of the Days will be the Way of the Cross on Friday, the Evening Vigil on Saturday, and the Missioning Mass presided over by Pope Francis on Sunday morning.

Some of our confreres from Paris, Madrid, Rome and other places, are participating together with groups of young people involved in the training programmes and activities of the Xaverians.

These days are an experience of encounter, sharing of faith, and cultural exchange, but above all a call to arise and hurry with Mary to proclaim God’s closeness to humanity. (Lisbon, August 2^nd, 2023, Robert Kowa Sado s.x.)
