Dal 18 al 25 febbraio 2024, si è svolta a Locorotondo, in provincia di Bari, in Puglia, Italia, una settimana di animazione missionaria realizzata dagli Istituti missionari di Puglia (SUAM). È stata una settimana ricca di animazione, focalizzata sull’esperienza vissuta nei diversi paesi di missione da parte dei missionari della regione Puglia, tra cui i Comboniani, le sorelle della Consolata, i Saveriani, le Saveriane-Missionarie di Maria, le laiche Saveriane…

Ogni giorno, eravamo impegnati dal mattino alla sera secondo le attività e i gruppi che dovevamo incontrare. Nella mattinata, alcuni di noi andavano nelle scuole, altri nei centri di accoglienza. Nel pomeriggio c’era l’incontro con i ragazzi del catechismo e tutti ci trovavamo per l’Eucaristia, la Via Crucis, l’adorazione eucaristica. Ci  recavamo, inoltre, in piccoli gruppi nei vari centri di ascolto. Per la cena eravamo accolti dalle famiglie locorotondesi. 

L’esempio più eloquente è stato quello dei ragazzi dell’Istituto Agrario che, con curiosità e impegno, hanno nutrito l’interesse maggiore. Facevano domande per sapere di più su altre realtà a cui non sono abituati. Molte le domande degli studenti sull’impegno dei missionari nel mondo… Una vera e propria “piazza rotonda” (“Locus Rotondus”).

From February 18^th to 25^th, 2024, a week of mission awareness was held in Locorotondo, Bari Province, Puglia, Italy, under the gudiance of the Missionary Institutes in the Puglia Region (SUAM). It was a week rich of events centring around the life experiences in different mission countries of missionaries from the Puglia Region, including Comboni Missionaries, the Consolata Sisters, the Xaverians, the Xaverian Sisters-Missionaries of Mary, Xaverian lay women, etc.

We were busy every day, from morning to evening, in different activities and with the different groups we were supposed to meet. In the mornings, some of us would go to schools, others to refugee shelters (centri di accoglienza). In the afternoons, we used to meet with the catechism kids and then we would all gather for Mass, the Way of the Cross, and Eucharistic adoration. Moreover, we would go in small groups to various “focus groups” (centri di ascolto). For supper, we would stay at some families of Locorotondo as their guests.

The best experience was with the boys at the Istituto Agrario; they showed the greatest interest with their curiosity and commitment: they asked questions to know more about other life situations they are not familiar with. These students asked also many questions about the work of the missionaries around the world… It was really a “piazza rotonda” (round place - a pun on the place name Locorotondo – tr. )
