La Parola di Dio in questi ultimi anni risuona e illumina la mia vita in maniera sorprendente. È veramente la lampada che illumina il presente e il passato, suscitando in me un sentire profondo che da significato e dinamismo alla mia vita. Il Signore ha guardato me suo piccolo servo… grandi cose ha fatto in me l’Onnipotente e Santo è il suo nome. (Lc. 1.48) Anche il salmo 126 riassume il significato della mia vita e descrive i momenti forti del mio ministero missionario: “grandi cose ha fatto il Signore per me, e mi ha colmato di gioia… Chi semina nelle lacrime mieterà con giubilo. Nell’andare se ne va e piange. Portando la semente da gettare, ma nel tornare, viene con giubilo portando i covoni”.

Con la velocità di un fulmine passa per la mia mente e cuore l’ esclamazione San Guido M. Conforti all’inizio della lettera Testamento: “Il Signore non poteva essere più buono con me”. Fin da ragazzo il grande mio desiderio era di partire per il Bangladesh, ma dopo la mia ordinazione mi hanno chiesto di andare in Spagna come formatore, poi in Sierra Leone. Dopo sei anni, mi hanno richiamato nuovamente in Spagna, a Madrid. Ho chiesto di ritornare in Sierra Leone, ma per la guerra mi hanno chiesto di tornare in Italia nella formazione ad Ancona e il servizio ai missionari anziani a Parma. Poiché mi sentivo in forze ho chiesto di poter ritornare in missione e sono partito per la Colombia. In questi anni il Signore ha sempre giocato di anticipo facendomi il regalo dei confratelli, delle persone che mi aspettavano, dei padri spirituali che mi hanno accolto e accompagnato. Veramente il Signore non poteva essere più buono me e mi ha colmato di gioia. (Emilio Baldin sx)

In recent years, the Word of God has resonated in my life and illuminated it in a remarkable way. It truly is a lamp that sheds light on the present and the past, and stirs within me a deep feeling that gives meaning and purpose to my life. The Lord has looked upon me, his little servant… great things he has done for me. Omnipotent and Holy is his name (Luke 1:48). Also Psalm 126 well summarises the meaning of my life and describes the strong moments of my missionary ministry: “Yes, the Lord has done great deeds for me, and I am overjoyed… He who sows in tears sings as he reaps. He went off, went off weeping, carrying the seed. He comes back, comes back singing, bringing in his sheaves.”

Saint Guido M. Conforti’s exclamation at the beginning of the Testament Letter flashes through my mind and heart with the speed of lightning: “The Lord could not have been more benevolent towards us!” Ever since I was a boy, my greatest wish had been to go to Bangladesh, but after my ordination I was asked to go to Spain as an educator, and then to Sierra Leone. After six years, they called me back to Spain, to Madrid. I then applied to return to Sierra Leone, but because of the war, I was asked to return to Italy to attend the training course in Ancona and to assist the elderly missionaries in Parma. As I was feeling fit and well, I asked to be allowed to return to the mission and set off for Colombia. Over the years, the Lord has always been one step ahead, giving me the gift of my fellow brothers, of the people who were waiting for me, and of the spiritual fathers who welcomed and guided me. Truly the Lord could not have been more benevolent to me; in fact, he filled me with joy. (Emilio Baldin s.x.)
