Mercoledì 6 settembre 2023, papa Francesco, nella consueta udienza generale, ha ripercorso le tappe del recente viaggio apostolico in Mongolia: “…ho avuto la grazia di incontrare in Mongolia una Chiesa umile e lieta, che è nel cuore di Dio…Ci si potrebbe chiedere: perché il Papa va tanto lontano a visitare un piccolo gregge di fedeli? Perché è proprio lì, lontano dai riflettori, che spesso si trovano i segni della presenza di Dio, il quale non guarda alle apparenze, ma al cuore”.

La cattolicità è “un’universalità incarnata, inculturata, che coglie il bene lì dove vive e serve la gente con cui vive. Ecco come vive la Chiesa: testimoniando l’amore di Gesù con mitezza, con la vita prima che con le parole, felice delle sue vere ricchezze: il servizio del Signore e dei fratelli. La chiesa mongola ha una storia toccante. Una storia sorta, per grazia di Dio, dallo zelo apostolico di alcuni missionari che, appassionati del Vangelo, circa trent’anni fa sono andati in quel Paese che non conoscevano. Ne hanno imparato la lingua, che non è facile, e, pur venendo da nazioni diverse, hanno dato vita a una comunità unita e veramente cattolica”.

 “La Mongolia ha una grande tradizione buddista, con tante persone che nel silenzio vivono la loro religiosità in modo sincero e radicale, attraverso l’altruismo e la lotta alle proprie passioni. Pensiamo a quanti semi di bene, nel nascondimento, fanno germogliare il giardino del mondo, mentre abitualmente sentiamo parlare solo del rumore degli alberi che cadono!” “…Guardare largo e non cadere prigionieri delle piccolezze: allargare i confini del nostro sguardo, perché veda il bene che c’è negli altri e sia capace di dilatare i propri orizzonti. E anche dilatare il proprio cuore: dilatare il cuore per capire, per essere vicino a ogni persona e a ogni civiltà”.

On Wednesday, September 6^th, 2023, during the usual general audience, Pope Francis reviewed the stages of his recent apostolic trip to Mongolia: “I had the grace of meeting, in Mongolia, a humble Church, and a joyful Church, which is in the heart of God, … One might ask: why did the Pope go so far to visit a small flock of the faithful? Because it is precisely there, far from the spotlight, that we often find the signs of the presence of God, who does not look at appearances, but at the heart.”

Catholicity is “an embodied universality, inculturated, which embraces the good where it is found and serves the people with whom it lives. This is how the Church lives: bearing witness to the love of Jesus meekly, with life before words, happy with its true riches: service to the Lord and to brethren.”

The Church in Mongolia “has a touching history. It came about, by the grace of God, from the apostolic zeal – on which we are reflecting at the moment – of a few missionaries who, impassioned by the Gospel, went about thirty years ago to that country they did not know. They learned the language – which is not easy – and, despite coming from different nations, gave life to a united and truly Catholic community.”

“Mongolia has a great Buddhist tradition, with many people who live their religiosity in a sincere and radical way, in silence, through altruism and mastery of their own passions. Just think of how many hidden seeds of goodness make the garden of the world flourish, while we usually only hear about the sound of falling trees!...  broaden the horizons, look high and low, look and do not fall prisoner to trivial things. Let us expand the boundaries of our gaze, so that we may be able to see the good in others and be capable of broadening our horizons and let us also open our heart; we need to make our heart grow and expand, in order to understand, to be close to every person and every civilization.”
