In questa prima settimana d’agosto dovrebbero concludersi i lavori di sistemazione del parco della nostra casa di Desio, dopo la violentissima tormenta, di acqua grandine e vento che ha investito Desio e le zone limitrofe, strappando rami, spezzando tronchi e sradicando alberi grandi e piccoli, che sono finiti nelle strade e sui tetti delle case. Sarà durata forse un paio di minuti, alle 14 circa, ma con tale intensità da poter fare molti disastri e molti danni. Sono circa 100 le piante che, o divelte o irrimediabilmente danneggiate dalla tempesta, si è dovuto rimuovere. Dovremo ricostruire anche quella parte del muro di cinta, insieme con il cancello, dove sono caduti alcuni grossi cedri del parco. Un altro grande cedro è caduto sui tetti della casa: la struttura in cemento non ha ceduto, ma bisogna rifare la copertura di coppi e di impermeabilizzazione. Varie case dalle parti della stazione ferroviaria sono state scoperchiate. Altre hanno avuto il tetto distrutto dagli alberi trasportati dal vento.

Dopo il temporale, ho fatto il giro della nostra proprietà. Sono andato a vedere che era successo con le statue rappresentanti le apparizioni della Vergine a Fatima nel 1917.

Sono rimasto davvero contento quando ho visto che il grande cedro caduto proprio sulla collinetta dove ci sono le statue, aveva appena sfiorato quella della Vergine Maria senza toccarla, cadendo a soli 10 centimetri. Neppure le altre statue sono state toccate. Vedendo l’assoluta casualità del fatto mi è venuto però da pensare che talvolta anche la natura, appunto nell’assoluta casualità dei fatti, sembra quasi rispettare un’immagine in marmo di colei che fu madre di Colui che l’ha creata. After a violent storm of water, hail and wind that hit Desio and the surrounding areas, restoration works of the park of our Xaverian house in Desio should be completed during this first week of August. The storm torn branches, broke trunks, and uprooted big and small trees which ended up falling on roads and house roofs. It happened at around 2:00 p.m. and probably lasted for a couple of minutes, but its intensity was such that it caused disasters and much damage. We had to remove approximately 100 plants and trees that the storm had uprooted or irreparably damaged. We shall have to rebuild both the section of the perimeter wall and the gate on which some of the park huge cedars fell. Another big cedar fell on the roofs of the house: the concrete structure has not yielded, but the roof tiles and waterproofing need to be remade. Several houses in the zone of the railway station were unroofed, others had their roofs destroyed by windblown trees.

After the storm, I took a walk to inspect our property. I went to see what might have happened to the statues representing the apparitions of the Virgin in Fatima in 1917.

I was very happy to see that the huge tree fallen on the hill where those statues are located had missed the one of the Virgin Mary for it had fallen only 10 centimetres away, without even touching it. The other statues were also untouched. Considering the absolute randomness of that fact, however, it occurred to me that sometimes even nature, precisely in the absolute randomness of facts, seems to respect a marble image of the one who was the mother of the One who created it.
