TV, media e giornali hanno fornito abbondanti notizie circa la grave situazione che si è venuta a creare in questi giorni in Romagna a causa delle piogge torrenziali. Anche se il maltempo era stato previsto ed era stata lanciata l’allerta meteo, nessuno avrebbe immaginato una situazione di questa gravità. Di fatto le inondazioni di città e campagne non sono state causate dalla rottura degli argini dei fiumi, anzi questi hanno tenuto bene; ma la pioggia è stata talmente abbondante che l’acqua ha tracimato gli argini invadendo strade, case e terreni, causando anche varie vittime.

Man mano che la situazione peggiorava, per precauzione diverse strade e ponti sono stati chiusi al traffico, comprese autostrade e ferrovie. Col passare del tempo la zona alluvionata si è estesa sempre più. 

Noi a SPV fino a oggi, mercoledì 17 maggio 2023, non abbiamo incontrato problemi maggiori, se non di riflesso per i racconti di persone e amici della zona. Nel pomeriggio dello stesso mercoledì 17, invece, l’acqua ha cominciato a invadere la campagna dietro la nostra casa, e in serata il corridoio e alcune salette del nostro piano terra si sono trovate con 10 cm di acqua. Si sperimenta insieme a tante famiglie la sensazione di impotenza in quanto ci si rende conto che non è possibile arginare l’acqua.

Diverse persone che sono venute fino alla nostra casa hanno detto di non avere memoria di una situazione simile almeno dagli ultimi 60 anni.

Ora non ci resta che attendere che l’acqua defluisca verso il mare. Ci vorrà un po’ di tempo visto che questa zona è di pochi metri sul livello del mare. In ogni caso non si può fare diversamente. Poi bisognerà asciugare, pulire, ventilare gli ambienti…

La cosa più importante è che stiamo tutti bene. Mercoledì 17 maggio 2023 dovevano arrivare i Confratelli, le Sorelle saveriane e alcuni Laici saveriani per l’Assemblea di AMeV della Regione Italiana prevista in questi giorni. La riunione sarà online. L'interessamento, la vicinanza, la preghiera e la solidarietà di tanti amici ci sono di sostegno. (Pietro Pierobon sx)

TV, media and newspapers have provided abundant news about the serious situation caused by torrential rains in recent days in Romagna. Bad weather had been forecasted and a weather alert issued, yet no one would have imagined a situation of such gravity. The floods in the city and countryside were not caused by the collapse of river banks, which in fact withstood well, rather by rain which fell so heavily that the water overflowed the banks and invaded roads, houses and fields, causing also several casualties.

As the situation progressively worsened, traffic in several roads and bridges was closed, and this precautionary measure was extended also to highways and railways. With each passing hour, the flooded area kept expanding.

As for us in San Pietro in V., till Wednesday, May 17^th, 2023, we had not met with great difficulties; we faced problems only indirectly through the accounts of people and friends of the area. However, in the afternoon of Wednesday 17^th, water started to invade the land behind our house and, by evening, the corridor and some small rooms in the first floor of our house were covered with 10 cm water. Like many families, we too feel a sense of helplessness for we realize that it is impossible to dam up the flood.

Several people who came up to our house said they had no memory of a similar situation in at least 60 years.

Now we just have to wait for the water to flow towards the sea. It will take some time as this area is only a few meters above sea level. In any case, we do not have other choice. Afterwards, it will be necessary to dry, clean, ventilate the rooms and so on. Now, the most important thing is that we are all fine.

On Wednesday, May 17^th, 2023, Confreres, Xaverian Sisters and some Lay Xaverians were supposed to arrive for the Italian Region’s assembly of Mission Awareness and Vocations Promotion scheduled for these days.
