Originale l’intuizione del XVII Capitolo generale (2017) di proporre una giornata di commemorazione di coloro che hanno versato il loro sangue in fedeltà al Vangelo di Gesù e al carisma saveriano.
È stato scelto il secondo venerdì del mese di ottobre perché tradizionalmente la seconda settimana è dedicata al “sacrificio”. Si è desiderato fare memoria della vita di questi 16 testimoni (in greco “martys”): Caio Rastelli (1901), Giovanni Botton (1944), Vittorio Faccin, Luigi Carrara, Giovanni Didonè, Albert Joubert (1964), Mario Veronesi (1971), Valeriano Cobbe (1974), Alberto Pierobon (1976), Salvatore Deiana (1987), Catina Gubert, Aldo Marchiol, Ottorino Maule (1995), Olga Raschietti, Lucia Pulici, Bernardetta Boggian (2014).
Non si tratta di una “memoria liturgica” nel senso stretto. Li ricorderemo nel “memento dei defunti” e, il prossimo 28 novembre, per i nuovi beati, celebreremo per la prima volta la loro memoria nell’eucaristia e nella Liturgia delle ore.
La giornata detta “dei Martiri Saveriani” è un’opportunità per rendere grazie a Dio per la testimonianza delle loro vite, a scoprire maggiormente il legame fra primo annuncio, testimonianza e martirio, per accogliere costantemente l’invito a essere santi come il Padre celeste è santo (cf. The XVII General Chapter (2017) had an original proposal: the institution of a day to commemorate those who shed their blood to remain faithful to the Gospel of Jesus and the Xaverian Charism.
The choice of the second Friday in the month of October was determined by the fact that traditionally the second week of that month is dedicated to the “sacrifice.”
The intention is to remember the life of these 16 witnesses (or, as in Greek, martyrs): Caio Rastelli (1901); Giovanni Botton (1944); Vittorio Faccin, Luigi Carrara, Giovanni Didonè, Albert Joubert (1964); Mario Veronesi (1971); Valeriano Cobbe (1974); Alberto Pierobon (1976); Salvatore Deiana (1987); Catina Gubert, Aldo Marchiol, Ottorino Maule (1995); Olga Raschietti, Lucia Pulici, Bernardetta Boggian (2014).
Strictly speaking, this is not a “liturgical memory.” We are going to remember them at the “mention of the deceased one” part, during the Eucharistic Prayer, and for the new Blessed ones, on November 28th, for the first time, we will celebrate their memory during the Eucharistic celebration and the Prayer of the Hours.
The day of the “Xaverian Martyrs” is an opportunity to give thanks to God for the witness of their lives, and discover more deeply the bond between first proclamation, witness, and martyrdom, and answer constantly to the call to be as holy as the Heavenly Father is holy (see.
