I suoi dati biografici sono semplici; la luminosità del suo esempio nella vita religiosa, nell'insegnamento e soprattutto nella malattia rimane difficile da descrivere.
Nato a S. Mauro Castelverde (PA; Dioc. di Cefalù) il 19.III.1935, entrò tra i Saveriani dopo gli studi liceali compiuti nel Seminario Diocesano. Emise la Professione il 19.X.1956 e fu ordinato Sacerdote il 21.II.1959 a Parma. Inviato a Roma per la specializzazione, si laureò con il massimo dei voti in Teologia Morale e Diritto Canonico presso la Pontificia Università del Laterano ed all'Alphonsianum. Nei successivi dieci anni insegnò tali materie allo Studentato Teologico di Panna, finché nel luglio 1971 accusò la terribile malattia che nel giro di 10 mesi lo consumò... privandolo gradualmente del movimento, della parola, del respiro... Morì a Roma, all'Ospedale S. Camillo, il 26 Maggio 1972.

Scrive P. Franco Sottocornola:
"I miei ricordi di lui sono molti e sono molto belli… Nei dieci anni che abbiamo vissuto insieme, egli è stato per me un amico, vero e prezioso. La sua intelligenza e la sua bontà, entrambe non comuni, erano fonte di continuo arricchimento spirituale per chi viveva con lui. Lo ricordo soprattutto come un Confratello che rende amabile la vita religiosa, la fa stiniare, la fa vivere con maggiore impegno... Equilibrio e armonia... Lo ricordo come fosse ora; mi dicevo: è completo, è un esempio di personalità armoniosa, senza eccessi, ma ricca di doti complementari... Il suo lavoro - i suoi impegni erano vari - anche se a volte assillante, non gli toglieva mai la sua caratteristica serenità. Insegnante di alte qualità didattiche, non andava in classe se non aveva chiarito a se stesso, e fino in fondo, l'argomento che avrebbe esposto agli altri... Ricordo l'acutezza e solidità di varie sue ipotesi circa la moralità della contraccezione: in un Convegno di Moralisti Italiani fu invitato a porlo per iscritto. Le proposte sulla libertà religiosa giunsero in Concilio, allora in atto...: il P. Turrisi aveva un'impostazione teologica attuale! Accettò pure l'ufficio di Giudice del Tribunale Ecclesiastico della Regione Emiliana. E l'orchestrina dello Studentato? Aveva il talento musicale, componendo e suonando con entusiasmo... Accettò la malattia finale con riconoscenza verso Dio, prendendola come purificazione e partecipazione totale a Cristo".
P. Emilio Baldin: "I giorni passati accanto a P. Turrisi ammalato sono stati ricchi di impressioni, di vita vissuta in modo eroico. Egli accettò il ruolo di vittima anche se la sua natura umana veniva annientata...
Prof. Dott. Sergio Valla: "Era Missionario ed anche se giovane ha accettato la morte su di un letto, come avrebbe dato la vita in Missione...".

Fr. Giuseppe Turrisi died at the Hospital of S. Camillo in Rome on May 26 1972, after a year battle with multiple sclerosis. He was 37 years old, born at S. Mauro Castelverde (Palermo, diocese of Cefalů) on March 19 1935.
After studies at the diocesan Seminary at Cefalů, Giuseppe Turrisi joined the Xaverians in 1955 at the Novitiate, and at the end professed religious vows on Oct. 19 1956. After theology studies, he was ordained a priest at Parma on Feb. 21 1959. He was sent for continuing education to Rome, where he received a doctorate in Moral Theology and Canon Law at the Pontifical University of Lateran and at the Alphonsianum.
For ten years, he taught these subjects to the theology students in Parma, with much success and enthusiasm, with personal preparation and commitment. Among the many activities and ministries, he was the Judge of the Ecclesial Tribunal of Emilia. With his musical talents, he contributed to the student orchestra with his compositions and playing.
In July 1971 he was diagnosed of sclerosis, which he endured with much serenity and dignity for a year, till his death at S. Camillo's Hospital in Rome on May 26 1972. It was a terrible disease that gradually impeded his movement, his speech, and his breathing.
His example in religious life, in teaching, and especially during his sickness was exemplary, and it's well described in the following witnesses of his confreres. “He was a missionary – wrote Professor Sergio Valla – and even in his young age, he accepted death on his bed, as if he would have given his life for the Mission.”
Fr. Franco Sottocornola remembers: "There are many beautiful episodes about his life that I remember: We lived together at Parma for 10 years, in the teaching field, and he was for me a true and precious friend. His intelligence and goodness were uncommon, and fonts of enduring spiritual enrichment for those who lived with him. I remember him especially as a confrere who enabled others to appreciate religious missionary life, and live it with renewed commitment.... Among his characteristics were a sense of balance and harmony. I used to say that Fr. Turrisi was a fulfilled person, as an example of an harmonious personality, without excesses, rich of complimenting talents... Even his own commitments and work load would never take away his serenity from his life. He had high teaching methods, and would never approach a class without having personally dealt the subject in depth for himself... I remember the solidity and intuitiveness of some of his ideas, on topics about the morality of contraception, and religious freedom, which were discussed in the Vatican Council II circles of that time... He possessed a "today's theology." He even accepted to be the Judge of the Ecclesial Tribunal of the Emilian Region. Who cannot forget his musical talents in the Theology little orchestra, playing and composing music with such enthusiasm and talent... He offered his final months of sickness in thanksgiving to God, accepting this stage of his life as a purifying and total participation in the Cross of Christ."
Fr. Emilio Baldin, who was at his bedside, recalls: "The days that I spent with Fr. Turrisi during his sickness were full of impressive moments, of a life lived in a heroic manner. He accepted to be a victim as he saw his earthly body disappear." May he rest in Peace.
