DA DOVE VENIAMO
I Saveriani, arrivano in Pakistan Orientale - Bangladesh dal 1971 – nei primi anni cinquanta (1952). "....Alle difficoltà del clima, della viabilità, delle bestie, dell'umidità, della mentalità, della povertà, alle croci che hanno fatto sanguinare tutti i Padri in cura d'anime, corrispondono in loro un grande zelo ed un grande spirito di sacrificio, anche se talvolta appaiono guidati più da generosità che da prudenza...": così, Mons. Dante Battaglierin, primo vescovo della Diocesi di Khulna, scriveva del lavoro di evangelizzazione e dei confratelli.
Siamo nella fase iniziale, la fase dei pionieri che hanno iniziato tutto da zero aprendo nuove comunità cristiane, nuove parrocchie, il Seminario per la formazione del clero locale e il Centro Catechetico di Jessore per la formazione dei laici, con l’intento di piantare e far crescere la Chiesa Locale.
La comunità Saveriana è segnata dalla presenza di personalità forti, mentre la missione stessa è ancora fortemente caratterizzata dalla potenza economica-occidentale.
In questo periodo, la gente comune e le autorità locali, generalmente, accolgono bene la presenza e l’opera dei missionari stranieri. In particolare, il loro impegno nel settore dell’educazione e della sanità è apprezzato e visto come un importante contributo per la crescita e lo sviluppo di questa nuova nazione.

Where we come from
The Xaverians arrived in East Pakistan - Bangladesh from 1971 - in the early fifties (1952). "... To the difficulties of the climate, of the roads, of the animals, of the humidity, of the mentality, of poverty, to the crosses that made all the Fathers bleed in the care of souls, correspond in them a great zeal and a great spirit of sacrifice, even if sometimes they appear to be guided more by generosity than by prudence ...": thus, Msgr. Dante Battaglierin, the first bishop of the Diocese of Khulna, wrote of the work of evangelization and of the confreres.
We are in the initial phase, the phase of the pioneers who started everything from scratch by opening new Christian communities, new parishes, the Seminary for the formation of the local clergy and the Catechetical Centre of Jashore for the formation of the laity, with the
intention of planting and to grow the Local Church.
The Xaverian community is marked by the presence of strong personalities, while the mission itself is still strongly characterized by Western economic power. In this period, ordinary people and local authorities generally welcome the presence and work of foreign missionaries. In particular, their commitment in the education and health sector is appreciated and seen as an important contribution to the growth and development of this new nation.
