«Dimentico del passato e proteso verso il futuro» (Fil 3,13)
Carissimi confratelli, sorelle saveriane, laici saveriani,
a tutti le mie felicitazioni nella Solennità di S. Guido M. Conforti.
Spontaneamente in questo giorno la mia mente ritorna alle prime celebrazioni di questa festa, nelle case apostoliche. Giorno di vacanza, tutti vestiti a festa, Messa solenne, pranzo speciale, pomeriggio di giochi e cinema. Era un giorno atteso.
Passarono gli anni e la festa la vissi con altre modalità, in altri luoghi, con altra sensibilità.
Il Fondatore fu beatificato: mi trovavo in Giappone. Ne parlammo alla comunità cristiana. La sua figura cominciava a prendere un connotato più vasto. Che meraviglia quando mi accorsi che i giapponesi amavano sentire parlare del nostro Fondatore.
Poi arrivò la desiderata canonizzazione: Guido M. Conforti è modello universale di santità.
Oggi la sua Solennità non è più solo nostra, è della Chiesa. Ma noi ne siamo i custodi, i garanti, i figli che lo conoscono e lo imitano. E vogliamo che tanti/e lo conoscano e conoscano il Carisma che lo Spirito Santo ci ha dato tramite questo Pastore.
È Solennità saveriana, solennità missionaria, solennità ecclesiale.
Del Fondatore, in ogni epoca della mia vita saveriana, una caratteristica mi ha attirato: egli fu discepolo ottimista, che poggiò la sua vita nel palmo della mano di Dio e fu capace di ardui progetti!
Confratelli, Sorelle, Laici, Auguri a tutti in questa Solennità. Auguri di serenità, Auguri di coraggio, Auguri di ottimismo. Auguriamoci vicendevolmente tanta collaborazione per poter lavorare bene, con frutto, nella vigna del Signore.

Dear confreres, Xaverian Sisters, Xaverian Lay Missionaries,
I send you all my greetings on the occasion of the Solemnity of St. Guido M. Conforti.
On this day, my thoughts go spontaneously to the first celebrations of this anniversary in the minor seminaries. It was a holiday, all of us dressed in our finest, a solemn Mass, a special lunch, games and a film in the afternoon. It was a day to which we all looked forward.
The years went by and I lived this celebration in other ways and places, and with another sensitivity.
When the Founder was beatified I was in Japan. We spoke about him to the Christian community. His figure began to take on a wider significance. I marveled at how the Japanese loved to hear about our Founder.
Then the long-awaited canonization arrived: Guido M. Conforti is now a universal model of holiness.
Today his Solemnity is not just ours, it belongs to the entire Church. Yet we are its custodians, the sons who know him and imitate him. And we desire that many men and women get to know him and the Charism that the Holy Spirit has given to us through this Pastor.
It is a Xaverian solemnity, a missionary solemnity, an ecclesial solemnity.
In every period of my Xaverian life I have been attracted by one characteristic of the Founder: he was an optimistic disciple who placed his life into the hands of God and was capable of demanding projects!
Confreres, Sisters, lay Xaverians, I send you my best wishes on this Solemnity: may you be blessed with serenity, courage and optimism. Let us wish for each other a great collaboration that will help us to work well, and produce fruits, in the Lord’s vineyard.
