Con il tema “cuori ardenti, piedi in cammino”, la 97a Giornata Missionaria Mondiale di quest'anno si concentra sull'importanza di rinnovare la nostra passione missionaria per annunciare e testimoniare Gesù ad ogni creatura. Qualcuno può dire che è sempre lo stesso discorso. Ci sentiamo annoiati e distratti! Tuttavia, riflettendo sul messaggio del Papa, cogliamo la forte provocazione delle sue parole. La ragione profonda della riflessione del successore di Pietro è che l’esigenza della missione di annunciare e testimoniare l’amore del Signore Risorto ad ogni creatura corra il rischio di essere ammorbidita dalle nostre reazioni personali e comunitarie quando, per esempio, affermiamo di aver già fatto abbastanza o abbiamo sempre fatto così. E proprio per non cadere in questa indolenza missionaria, causata anche dalla stanchezza e dallo scoraggiamento, il Papa invita tutte le forze vive della Chiesa a lasciarsi accompagnare e ispirare da Gesù così come lo hanno fatto i due discepoli di Emmaus: cuori che bramano sempre la compagnia di Gesù, soprattutto quando si fa sera: “Resta con noi, Signore!”
“L’immagine dei ‘piedi in cammino’, afferma il messaggio, ci ricorda ancora una volta la perenne validità della missio ad gentes, la missione data alla Chiesa dal Signore risorto di evangelizzare ogni persona e ogni popolo sino ai confini della terra. Oggi più che mai l’umanità, ferita da tante ingiustizie, divisioni e guerre, ha bisogno della Buona Notizia della pace e della salvezza in Cristo. Colgo pertanto questa occasione per ribadire che tutti hanno il diritto di ricevere il Vangelo”.
È interessante notare come nella terza parte del suo messaggio, papa Francesco stabilisca un forte rapporto tra l’azione missionaria e la cooperazione missionaria del suo messaggio: “L’urgenza dell’azione missionaria della Chiesa comporta naturalmente una cooperazione missionaria sempre più stretta di tutti i suoi membri ad ogni livello…”. Under the theme “Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move”, this year World Mission Day focuses on the importance to renew our missionary passion for the proclamation of Christ to all creatures. One may say that it is the same old story, and we feel bored and inattentive! Nonetheless, when we reflect on the Pope’s message, we are provoked by his words. The deep meaning of the successor of Peter’s reflection consists in his pointing out the fact that the missionary urgency to proclaim and bear witness to the Risen Lord’s love for every creature may run the risk of losing steam because of our personal and community reaction, such as when, for instance, we affirm that enough has already been done or that things have always been done this way. It is precisely in order not to fall into this missionary indolence, which is also caused by tiredness and discouragement, that the Pope invites all the living forces of the Church to allow Jesus to accompany and inspire them, just as the two disciples of Emmaus did: with hearts that constantly yearn for Jesus’ company, especially when evening draws near – “Stay with us, Lord!”
“The image of ‘feet setting out’” – reads the message – “reminds us once more of the perennial validity of the missio ad gentes, the mission entrusted to the Church by the risen Lord to evangelize all individuals and peoples, even to the ends of the earth. Today more than ever, our human family, wounded by so many situations of injustice, so many divisions and wars, is in need of the Good News of peace and salvation in Christ. I take this opportunity to reiterate that “everyone has the right to receive the Gospel.”
It is interesting to observe how in the third part of his message, Pope Francis establishes a strong relationship between missionary activity and missionary cooperation: “The urgency of the Church’s missionary activity naturally calls for an ever-closer missionary cooperation on the part of all her members and at every level.” (Franciscus Xavier Sadono Agung Widodo s.x.)
