La “Fiction”, dal titolo “Feu”, che significa “Agent” [“volpe”], è basata su un avvenimento storicamente accaduto nel 1979 (il massacro di Marichjhapi). Un gruppo di indù dal Bangladesh ritornano in India attraverso “Sundorbon”, un'area forestale di mangrovie nel Delta del Gange o foresta del Bangladesh. Giunti al di là del confine, nella zona di Morichapi, decidono di fermarsi e stabilirsi in quel posto. Dopo un anno circa, vengono minacciati dal governo indiano affinché se ne vadano via, ma essi oppongono un netto rifiuto. Di fronte alla loro opposizione a lasciare quella terra, vengono massacrate dalle 5.000 alle 10.000 persone, anche se il governo dichiara ufficialmente 400/500 vittime. In realtà si è trattato di un genocidio di massa. A questo tragico avvenimento si è ispirato il regista Dhiman.  Nella fiction sono stati coinvolti famosi attori bengalesi. Tra gli attori anche il nostro confratello p. Giovanni Gargano (in Bangladesh dal 2007) che interpreta il personaggio chiamato “Francis”. “Francis” è alla ricerca del suo amico “Sunil”, fotografo cristiano impegnato ad aiutare questo gruppo, denunciando ripetutamente la persecuzione contro questa gente. La fiction è stata girata a Khulna e nei pressi della foresta Sundorbon. Le riprese sono state fatte lo scorso anno e lanciata online nel mese di gennaio 2025.

The ‘Fiction’, entitled ‘Feu’, meaning ‘Agent’ [ ‘fox’ ], is based on an event that happened historically in 1979 (the Marichjhapi massacre). A group of Hindus from Bangladesh return to India through ‘Sundorbon’, a mangrove forest area in the Ganges Delta or Bangladesh Forest. Having reached the other side of the border, in the Morichapi area, they decide to stop and settle there. After a year or so, they are threatened by the Indian government to leave, but they refuse. In the face of their opposition to leave the land, 5,000 to 10,000 people are massacred, although the government officially claims 400 to 500 victims. In reality it was a mass genocide. The director Dhiman was inspired by this tragic event.  Famous Bengali actors were involved in the drama. Among the actors is our confrere Fr. Giovanni Gargano (in Bangladesh since 2007) who plays the character called ‘Francis’. ‘Francis’ is in search of his friend ‘Sunil’, a Christian photographer committed to helping this group by repeatedly denouncing the persecution against these people. The drama was filmed in Khulna and around Sundorbon forest. Filming was done last year and launched online in January 2025.
